Metro's Vehicle Maintenance Division has an exciting opportunity to hire for a Special Duty/ Term Limited Temporary Technical Information Processing Specialists (TIPS III) position, expected to last 6 months and may be extended.
This position is responsible for verifying, entering, and tracking various technical data with multiple computer systems/programs, including payroll, work orders, supplies, and other applications.
Vehicle Maintenance Division
Metro Transit's Vehicle Maintenance Division takes pride in meeting our customers' expectations for safe, dependable, clean, and environmentally sound vehicles. Maintenance of Metro's bus fleet takes place at seven bus bases and at our central Component Supply Center where specialized work is done. The majority of Metro's buses are hybrids, followed by diesel, electric trolleys, and several battery-electric buses. Metro has long been an innovator in green vehicle technology and plans to transition to battery-electric buses as we move toward our goal of a zero-emission fleet. Our Division is committed to working in a timely, cost-effective, and environmentally sensitive manner, and values teamwork, communication, diversity, and social justice.
Job Duties

Candidates must have increasingly demonstrated clerical experience, which includes the following:
Washington State Driver's License or the ability to travel to work locations throughout King County with limited or no public transportation in a timely manner.

Final offers are contingent on the successful completion of reference checks. SDA offers will be contingent on a record review (personnel file review). References may also be conducted. Management will make the final selection of the candidate to be placed into the special duty assignment. The SDA will also be dependent on approval by your current supervisor. Pay for SDA will be in accordance with Personnel Guidelines or the selected employee's collective bargaining agreement.
This recruitment will also be used to create an eligibility list to fill future SDA, TLT, and Career Service vacancies that may become open in this classification. The pool will be valid for 12 months upon creation and may be used at the discretion of the hiring manager until exhausted or until all candidates are placed.

Work schedule:
This position is FLSA non-exempt and, therefore, overtime eligible. Normal work hours vary between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m (Preferred hours 6:30 AM-3:00 PM), Monday through Friday. However, assignments occasionally involve working on alternate shifts.

Job Duties

In this role, you will apply equity and social justice principles that exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices to all aspects of the work. As the TIPS III, you will:
- Verify, prepare and process employee payroll entries in the maintenance work order system.
- Perform payroll data verification in a maintenance work order system;
- Communicate with Payroll and Vehicle Maintenance data management personnel, as needed, to resolve problems.
- Enter work order data into a PC-based system to track vehicle maintenance history as well as workload and costs for the rebuilding of components.
- Determine validity, correctness, and completeness of data entered and make corrections as needed.
- Maintain and prepare accurate files and reports for auditing purposes.
- Work cooperatively with Vehicle Maintenance and other Transit personnel.
- Assist in ordering supplies, receiving materials, and checking them against purchase orders.
- Prepare oil samples for analysis.
- Use detailed computer programs to perform multiple-step tasks with speed and accuracy.
- Answer phones, route calls, and take messages for staff.
- Maintain logs and file systems to organize and control records and information.
- Prepare letters, memos, and reports as requested or required.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Candidates must have increasingly demonstrated clerical experience, which includes the following:
- Ability to establish and maintain respectful working relationships with a diverse group of co-workers, colleagues, and internal/external customers and communicate effectively in person, via telephone, and e-mail/writing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ability to learn specialized software applications.
- Skill in producing documents that may require charts, graphs, and the manipulation of graphics.
- Knowledge of and experience with document filing and records systems.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when handling sensitive information.
- Can handle multiple competing priorities, and maintain attention to detail.
- Skill in keyboarding and entering data accurately.
- Time management skills and skilled in prioritizing work assignments.
- Ability to deal with others with tact, diplomacy, and courtesy.
- Have any equivalent combination of experience and education necessary to perform the job duties.
- Demonstrated experience with computer application software like Access, PeopleSoft, SharePoint, or equivalent.
- Experience record keeping, inventory control, auditing, and payroll.
- Basic knowledge of Oracle Financial system and/or PeopleSoft or similar system(s) and M5 Fleet Focus System.
- Knowledge of Metro Transit policy & procedures.
