We strongly value the leadership skills, teamwork, problem-solving, mission orientation and multi-cultural awareness that military service personnel offer. We created the Vets 4 HIRE Program to support Veterans in making a successful transition from military to civilian employment and to provide a pipeline of skilled military talent for positions within King County.
THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE USED TO CREATE A POOL OF ELIGIBLE VETERANS, RESERVISTS AND NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERS TO FILL APPROXIMATELY 16 POSITIONS IN 2020 THAT ARE LOCATED ACROSS THE COUNTY. Many of these positions are still being developed.
These positions will be:- in a variety of career fields; AND
- in a variety of King County departments; AND
- full-time or part-time, AND
- six months to one year in duration depending on the needs of the King County hiring agency and available funding.
Candidates will be screened for meeting the Vets 4 HIRE eligibility requirements. Those candidates who meet eligibility requirements will be placed in an eligible candidate pool. The candidate pool will then be made available to interested Human Resources staff and Hiring Managers across King County. Candidates could potentially be contacted by multiple agencies regarding different Vets 4 HIRE opportunities.- Job Duties
The Vets 4 HIRE 2020 positions are still in the process of being created by county departments.
King County supports a huge variety of professional career paths. Past learning experiences have been in such areas as human resources, environmental compliance, IT, volunteer management, internal communications, data analysis and database management, contracting and engineering, just to name a few.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES AND PRACTICAL HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE will vary depending on the specific position created. Many positions will involve a combination of administrative and project/program technical support and could involve:
- General administrative support such as: prepare, proofread, edit documents; enter data and maintain a variety of databases; organize and update records; track and verify financial, accounting or other fiscal information; provide information and assistance to internal/external customers by phone, email or in person; plan and coordinate event logistics; learning and using a variety of software, and other related assignments or projects.
- General project or program technical support such as: research, data analysis, making recommendations, creating reports or technical documents, planning and delivering briefings or events, creating or updating databases or spreadsheets, communicating with and engaging stakeholders, streamlining and coordinating processes, and other assignments.

REQUIRED MATERIALS:
- On-line King County application form which details your military, civilian and volunteer experience. Your application is the first item reviewed so make sure it is detailed, complete, includes your military experience and any technology, software or other skills you possess. WORK SCHEDULE: Vets 4 HIRE experiences will vary from 24-40 hours per week for six months depending on the hiring department's needs, with a possible extension not to exceed a total of 2080 hrs. depending on available funding. Specific work hours will vary based on assignment. (Note: 2080 hours is equivalent to working 40 hrs./wk. for one year)
WORK LOCATION: Most work locations will be downtown Seattle; however there are work locations throughout King County.

COMPENSATION is based on highest military rank held OR education level.
Veteran Fellow I - $17.5208 – $22.2087 per hour - High School graduate; or pursuing BA; or enlisted grade E4 or lower
Veteran Fellow II - $19.7266 - $25.0045 per hour - Possess BA; or pursuing Masters; or enlisted
grade E5 or higher
Veteran Fellow III - $25.0061 - $31.6969 - Completed Masters or Officer rank
BENEFITS- .025 hours of sick leave accruals for each hour worked
- Affordable Care Act (ACA) medical benefits only when working 30+ hours/week
- USERRA benefits of 21 paid days per year and pay differential

- Veteran fellows are not eligible for vacation leave, holiday pay or retirement, and medical only if the position is less than 30 hours/week
