Summary
The Project Planning and Delivery section has an exciting opportunity for a talented engineer under the guidance of experienced professionals. In this position you have the ability to see your ideas and designs become operational realities. Working with a diverse group of individuals, you will focus on the environment and creating systems that solve Wastewater Treatment challenges. You will have the pleasure of being involved on interesting projects, like replacement of major electrical equipment at a major treatment plant or renovation of an electrical system at a pump station that would include a new generator, switchgear and UPS.
What does a successful employee look like in 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months?
3 months - Shows successful ability to work in our current remote working environment and understanding of Wastewater Treatment processes.
6 months - Understanding electrical code (NEC) and its' application to Wastewater. Demonstrate understanding of power distribution and motor control systems.
12 months - Obtain EIT Certificate.
Who is Eligible - This position is open to the general public and King County Employees.
Positions - There is currently one career service position and one SDA/TLT ( 2 year assignment) available.
Telecommuting Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly by telecommuting, with occasional onsite work and meetings, as influenced by business needs. Employee will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
To support employees during this time King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team.
Work Location: Primarily teleworking and the King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104.
Work Schedule: This position is not covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday.

Job Duties
Core Work Duties
- Work as a member of a multi-discipline team led by a project engineer and a project manager and consisting of other engineers', maintenance and operations staff; consultants; construction and construction management staff, and others.
- Assist project engineer or staff engineer in multiple concurrent design and construction projects. The work includes the design and development of electrical power systems for diverse projects for wastewater facilities.
- Creating and maintaining King County Wastewater specifications and standards.
- Support project engineer in the preparation of project scopes, cost estimates, and schedules.
- Assist in coordinating the work of consultants, County maintenance, operations and engineering staff as required for assigned projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university engineering program OR relevant engineering design work experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License.
- Excellent time management skills..
- Ability to work independently.
- Able to work in industrial wastewater facilities.
- Has studied or has work experience with low voltage power distribution and control systems design.
- Possession of an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration.
- Background that encompasses a variety of engineering disciplines and projects of differing scales.
- Knowledge of current acceptable construction and engineering methods, practices, materials and equipment.
- Knowledge of procurement and contracting procedures, budget management, and project scheduling.
- Analytical abilities to prepare and evaluate alternative design proposals for capital projects.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals from a matrixed organization including operation and maintenance staff, engineering, project management, construction management, project control and administrative support.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Ability to inspect material and workmanship and to recognize construction deficiencies and omissions requiring corrective action.
- Knowledge of power system modeling software.
