Summary
The King County Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) has a staffing need for an experienced and technically proficient Wastewater Treatment Senior Operator in Charge (SOIC) - West Offsite. This is a lead, teach, and coaching opportunity with an emphasis of small plant operations. Network with different work groups; gain knowledge and exposure to construction processes within the division and serve as lead representative on behalf of operations. West Offsite is the front line of protecting our community waterways. West Offsite allows you to develop your operating skills outside of the normal treatment plant setting. It gives you the opportunity to work with the community and public as well as project management and conveyance inspection teams. Offsite is a 24/7operation that requires you to respond to emergency- overflow situation making it exciting and dynamic.
The responsibilities of this classification include planning, scheduling, coordinating, directing, monitoring and reviewing a crew's daily work, assigned treatment process and/or special project. Incumbent's lead, train and provide technical expertise to operate, monitor and maintain wastewater treatment odor control equipment and/or the collection and conveyance systems and processes with a focus on small plant operations.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE - This position is open to qualified S.E.I.U. Wastewater Local 925 Senior Operators with a Group III Wastewater Treatment Certification issued by Washington State Department of Ecology. Selection will follow Article 8.7 of the Local 925 CBA. This is a competitive recruitment, not subject to the transfer process.
This is a Special Duty Assignment for u p to three years . Please note that Special Duty Assignments are only for internal career service employees who have passed their initial probationary period. Employees must have supervisor approval prior to accepting a Special Duty Assignment.
The work associated with this position will primarily be performed onsite; this is not a telework position. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team. WORK LOCATIONS: West Treatment Plant: 1400 Discovery Park Blvd, Seattle, WA 98199
WORK SCHEDULE - The treatment plants are operated 24/7. This position works a 4 day/10 hours per day schedule. Candidates must be available to work any assigned schedule. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.

Job Duties
Core Work Duties
- Serve in a lead capacity to operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain wastewater treatment and odor control equipment and biological, chemicals, mechanical, and hydraulic processes.
- Provide an advance level of troubleshooting, problem solving, coordination and decision making when performing duties. Be able to respond to emergency situations and be on call after hours for CSO's.
- Operate, monitor, troubleshoot and maintain system and processes in the wastewater and Stormwater facilities and CSO.
- Recommend and determine changes to the wastewater processes to meet federal and Washington State permits and regulations and to optimize CSO performance. Provide on the job training to other operations staff.
- Assist with watch
- carbon change outs, chemical levels, generator program.
Minimum Qualifications
- Washington State Group lll Wastewater Treatment plant Operator certification from the Washington State Department of Ecology.
- Valid Washington State Drivers License.
- Knowledge and experience with King County West Offsite wastewater treatment process and collection system including West offsite CSO's.
- Experience leading, clear communication, training and scheduling, filling in for supervisors when out of the office.
