Do you like driving and physical work? Are you free from July 16 – August 9th? This short-term assignment provides an amazing opportunity to be engaged in the election process!
We are currently recruiting individuals to create a roster of skilled temporary employees who will work in the Short Term Temp Ballot Van Driver position. Training is provided to perform assigned work.
King County Elections (KCE) manages voter registrations and elections for more than 1.3 million voters in King County, the largest vote-by-mail county in the United States. Work Schedule: The assignment will begin the week of July 16th and conclude by August 9th. The work schedule on Election Day, August 6th, will be adjusted to start earlier and end by 11:00 p.m. The number of hours worked and the work schedule vary according to the workload including additional evenings and weekends. This position is non-exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is eligible for overtime pay.
- Job Duties
- Working as part of a two-person team, this position will drive a cargo van to an assigned location and collect ballots from voters following standard department procedures and election law.
- Answer basic voter questions.
- Load and unload ballots & securely transport ballots back to the King County Elections Building in Renton.
- Process incoming ballots which may require standing or sitting in one location for long periods of time.
- Open and separate envelopes and ballots; inspect ballots and envelopes, complete batch ticket information.
- Provide customer service and use team building skills.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and experience working in a diverse team environment; ability to stand for long periods of time in inclement weather conditions; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to work with and provide exceptional customer service to the public; ability to bend, kneel, stand, reach, climb stoop, squat; and the ability to lift 25 pounds.
- Supplemental Information
Travel to work locations throughout King County with limited or no public transportation services is required. A valid Washington State Driver's License is required to operate King County vehicles; must be 21 years old.
A final offer of temporary employment will be contingent upon the review of an official Washington State Driving Abstract establishing a good driving record.
Union: This position is represented by the Teamsters Local 117, Joint Units Agreement.
