Our King County Road Services Division, Bridge and Facility Work Unit is responsible for a variety of projects including bridge repair, sidewalks, guardrail, facilities, fences, and seawalls.
This recruitment process will be used to create an eligibility list that will be used to fill Carpenter I positions such as regular career service, special duty, term-limited temporary (TLT), and short-term temporary position for up to six-months from the date of its creation.

- Perform Bridge Repairs, properly jack, brace, remove and install heavy timbers, safely work at heights up to 50+ feet
- Maintain work site around moving traffic such as flagging and traffic control
- Maintain concrete and masonry structures, including sidewalks and ADA ramps
- Repair structural components of facilities and infrastructure including guardrails, fences, decks, floors, walls, ceilings, and roofs.
- Maintain and repair roof, wall, ceiling and floor coverings including drywall, roofing, acoustical tiles and siding.
- Install and repair doors, windows and related hardware, including lock mechanisms, closures, keying systems and re-glazing.
- Build, install, repair and maintain finish materials including cabinets, millwork, tile, plastic-laminate, furniture, signs and partitions.
- Operate and maintain a variety of carpentry hand and power tools and equipment.
- Providing excellent customer service to the Division's clients.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Journey-level knowledge of and skills in the carpentry trade.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics formulas and construction terminology.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Knowledge of the qualities, grades, uses and adaptability of various woods, wood products & related materials used in all types of carpentry.
- Demonstrated skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment used in the trade including safe use of hand and power tools; such as drills, saws, sanders, routers, welders etc.
- Safely work at heights up to 50+ feet; set up work sites to ensure safe working conditions per OSHA and WISHA requirements.
- Safely use ladders, lifts, rigging, barricades, PPE, and safety harnesses to remain safe on the jobsite and protect the general public.
- Familiarity with State and County policies, OSHA regulation and building codes.
- Skill in completing time and materials estimates.
- Ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively contribute to a team embraces and encourages diversity in its workforce and where differences are valued.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S):
- Possession of a valid Washington state driver's license.
- An offer of employment will be contingent on the success of a pre-employment physical examination.
- Candidate must obtain King County's CPR and Flagging Certification within the first 90 days of employment.

Interviews and testing are anticipated to be held the week of October 8, 2019.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday; 8hr/day, 40hr/week. During the summer months, schedule is Monday – Thursday; 10hr/day. This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. Working extended shifts, after-hours, mandatory overtime, weekends, call-outs, and holidays may be required in emergency circumstances, such as during inclement weather and/or on special projects. Overtime hours, weekends, and holidays vary upon business demand, season and weather.
UNION REPRESENTATION: This position is represented by Local Union 30 of the Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters as part of the Joint Crafts Council.
