Communications and Community Relations Project Manager
- Summary
The Department of Local Services (DLS) represents a comprehensive effort to improve the efficient, effective, and timely delivery of municipal services to the nearly 250,000 people who live in unincorporated communities of King County.
The Road Services Division designs, builds, operates and maintains roads and bridges in unincorporated areas of King County. The division is a 24 hour per day, 7 day a week operation with work site locations in Renton, Downtown Seattle, and several remote field locations throughout King County. The division is responsible for 1,500 miles of road and 182 bridges, 5.7 million feet of drainage ditches, over 44,000 traffic control signs, 78 traffic signals, and 50 traffic cameras in unincorporated King County.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not overtime eligible. This position may be required to work afterhours, weekends and/or holidays. Work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

- Job Duties
- Develop communication plans for the division's capital projects and operational programs.
- Contribute content to and serve as a backup for running Roads' social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook and a WordPress blog).
- Support the Department's Public Information Officer and Communications Team by performing research and coordinating on messaging.
- Perform media relations work, including developing talking points for leadership and press releases.
- Serve as a project manager or task lead for a variety of small and large scale communications projects.
- Foster a spirt of inclusion and belonging while coordinating, collaborating and communicating with a wide variety of people with diverse backgrounds.
- Work with planners to track community outreach needs for priority populations.
- Work with planners and engineers to incorporate and track equity and social justice opportunities into the Roads project delivery process.
- Schedule, plan and facilitate internal and external outreach and other meetings.
- Create concise, accurate content for printed materials and displays.
- Oversee production of printed materials and displays on tight deadlines.

- Demonstrated progressive responsibilities in the field of communications and media relations.
- Experience preparing talking points for media and press releases.
- Experience planning, organizing and facilitating events for a wide variety of attendees both internal and external.
- Demonstrated skills in performing community outreach, including planning and facilitating meetings.
- Experience communicating with individuals and groups with diverse backgrounds.
- Experience working in fast paced, high pressure environments with a variety of target audiences including: elected officials, regional transportation authorities, senior county management, transportation constituency groups, and internal staff and management.
- Experience working with a variety of social media platforms including govDelivery, Twitter, Facebook and WordPress.
- Ability to demonstrate behaviors that include fairness, respect, and inclusiveness
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- A Bachelor's Degree communications, public administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Progressively responsible experience in the field of communications, media relations public outreach, and/or event planning.
- Demonstrated success managing projects and project teams in a highly operational setting.
- Experience using Excel
- Experience working diplomatically with citizens, constituency groups, committees and networking with jurisdictions and governmental agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver oral presentations and facilitate meetings.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise written materials such as communication plans, reports and social media posts and talking points intended for a variety of audiences.

Selection Process: Applications will be screened for clarity, completeness and qualifications, including background directly related to the job duties listed.
