Community Engagement and Public Policy
- Summary
The Office of Law Enforcement Oversight (OLEO) seeks a seasoned professional to lead its public education and engagement efforts. This person who fills this leadership position will improve and advance OLEO's strategic community engagement including staffing OLEO's Community Advisory Committee for Law Enforcement Oversight (CACLEO) and implementing most aspects of OLEO's outreach and external communications, including cultivating relationships with community leaders and continue building trust between OLEO and the public it serves
The successful candidate will have experience working with volunteer boards and committees, planning and conducting community engagement efforts and campaigns, and strong written and verbal communication skills. This position is a salaried, at-will, overtime-exempt classification that reports to the OLEO Director.- Job Duties
The successful candidate will at a minimum demonstrate skill and ability to:
- Lead and support the Community Advisory Committee for Law Enforcement Oversight (CACLEO).
- Develop and implement a community engagement program focused on communities served by KCSO; identify opportunities for public input and dialogue with CACLEO/OLEO.
- Form Partnerships with community organizations, King County agencies, and other entities served by the KCSO.
- Establish and implement procedures/protocols and management controls for the communications program and coordinate within OLEO to ensure compliance with County policies.
- Solicit input and facilitate discussion to identify community police oversight policy issues, initiatives, and programs/projects that are of concern to residents of King County and policy makers.
- Create quality written and web-based communications about OLEO and its work on behalf of citizens.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to help ensure OLEO's success in oversight and strong relationships throughout the County.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
REQUIREMENTS:
- At least five years of relevant work experience, including existing relationships with community leaders in King County.
- Expertise in leading volunteer boards and committees, with demonstrated success in engaging and deploying members.
- Ability to facilitate communication among diverse groups of individuals about police practices issues to raise awareness about the work of the OLEO.
- Ability to build trust with the general public, form and maintain effective partnerships and collaborative working relationships, including elected officials, the media, county employees, other government agency staff and the public.
- A demonstrated knowledge of community engagement strategies and challenges, the communities served by KCSO and police and community relations.

This position is open to all qualified candidates. The annual salary range for this position is $96,057 - $129,186 and includes an innovative and award-winning employer with paid medical, dental and vision insurance as well as a generous vacation and leave program.
