Summary

The Criminal Division of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is looking for highly motivated attorneys to join our office as contract deputy assistant attorneys [DPAA]s.

KCPAO deputies cover work at courthouses in Redmond, Kent and Seattle. All deputies are expected to be able to work at any of those locations.

DPAA contracts are for six-months, with the option to extend an additional six months (12 months total) depending on budget and satisfactory performance. DPAAs are usually assigned to work in our District Court Unit. These positions provide excellent courtroom experience, especially for new lawyers or lawyers without previous criminal law experience.  Work assignments will likely include handling gross misdemeanor cases in the District Court Unit, assisting with drug and mainstream felony filings, and covering felony calendars.

We hire regular deputies from this pool of candidates when we have openings.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Strong legal research, writing and analytical skills.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to working effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong commitment to Equity, Social and Justice issues including working on personal cultural competency.
  • Passion and willingness to learn trial skills.
  • Must be Washington State Bar qualified.  If you took the most recent Washington State bar exam, you are eligible to apply but must demonstrate that you passed.

Supplemental Information

U.S. Citizenship (per RCW), member in good standing with the Washington State Bar and be able to work at any of our three locations.

Must submit to a criminal history check.
