The position we are advertising for will provide epidemiologic support to both the Tuberculosis Control Program and the Medical Examiner's Office at Public Health – Seattle & King County.

At the Tuberculosis Control Program, this position will be participating in outbreak control and contact investigation efforts; compiling, maintaining, and analyzing TB data and reports; and presenting summaries of data and investigations in local, state and national settings. There are opportunities to participate in the development of methodology and public health surveillance systems.
With the team in the Medical Examiner's Office, the position will focus on the development of the annual report assuring high quality data and reviewing program data for early identification of emerging data trends such as changes in numbers of deaths due to firearms, suicide or drug overdoses. The position will also provide support for queries of the data.
WORK LOCATION: Harborview Medical Center, located at 325 Ninth Ave in Seattle. The position is supervised by an Epidemiologist 2 in the Tuberculosis Control Program and will have opportunities to work with medical providers nationally recognized in both of their respective fields.
WORK SCHEDULE: The normal work week for the position is 40 hours, Monday through Friday. Evening and weekend work may be required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES – Tuberculosis Control Program
- Thoughtfully approaches data requests and material development in a culturally responsible and respectful manner
- Provide key epidemiological analysis for outbreak and clinic investigations
- Develop methodologies, procedures, and reporting for case and index case investigations in conjunction with the Epidemiologists and TB Disease Control Officer; work with staff members to design surveys and studies that will improve TB prevention and control efforts in King County; work with management to develop systems of quantitative and qualitative analyses of data and evaluation of existing data; assist with interpreting epidemiological data for planning and policy development; and conduct evaluation projects and monitor performance measures.
- Present public health information related to surveillance or clinic projects to local and national audiences; prepare graphic presentations for lectures and reports; prepare manuscripts, regular, and annual reports for TB case management and investigation; assist with preparation of reporting on performance measures; and make presentations on TB findings in conjunction with other TB staff.
- Provide consultation in the identification of case and contact investigations; assist in conducting field investigations. Design, maintain, monitor, and conduct regular quality assurance activities on TB databases.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES – Medical Examiner's Office- Assure data are audited for completeness/correctness on a regular cycle including assessing and cleaning data
- Use data presentation skills to create appealing and understandable Annual Reports
- Incorporate process improvements to streamline product development
- Review data and assess for changes in trends and communicate with leadership
- Work collaboratively with others in a team effort
- Conduct queries of the data for stakeholders and partners and respond to data requests from media and other outside agencies.
- Assist medical examiners in research activities involving data collection and analysis.
- Assist with data management in surveillance of drug overdose deaths, suicides, firearm fatalities, child deaths, deaths of elderly and vulnerable individuals, and other focused death review activities as directed.
- Assist with data collection and analysis necessary for annual accreditation reports for the National Association of Medical Examiners.
- Assist with data management planning for mass fatality events.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Demonstrated ability to establish trust and rapport with people of varying racial/ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, and life experiences.
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge of epidemiologic principles and methods; disease outbreak characteristics and control efforts; applied research methods, techniques and advanced analytical procedures; data interpretation; population characteristics and demographic principles; biostatistical methods with a focus on infectious disease epidemiology; and survey instruments, data collection and database systems.
- Demonstrated ability to manage data, including: cleaning and coding data; conducting data quality control procedures; preparing data sets for statistical analysis; using Microsoft ACCESS or similar relationship database software, statistical analysis software STATA, SAS, or R.
- Demonstrated ability to build databases that can track and generate reports on quantitative and qualitative data
- Demonstrated ability to work with community partners, both medical and non-medical; as part of a multidisciplinary team and the general public; and ability to present oral presentations to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and undertake complex assignments with minimal direct supervision, and work successfully in a team environment; maintain effective working relationships with managers, co-workers, customers, medical professionals and the public; adhere to confidentiality and research protocols; and to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree (Master's preferred) in public health, epidemiology, behavioral sciences or a related field.
