The King County Facilities Management Division (FMD), Building Operations Section (BOS) is currently hiring a Facilities Plumber I with great customer service skills, and one who enjoys working as a team. This position will perform journey-level plumbing and mechanical activities such as installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems in and around County facilities.

Through a workforce of over 300 dedicated employees, the FMD operates and manages the County's capital assets by developing and maintaining cost-conscious, sustainable, high-quality facilities, and environments. The Building Operations Section of FMD maintains approximately 3 million square feet in facilities where King County provides regional services, including the King County Courthouse and District Courts, Maleng Regional Justice Center, King County Administration Building, King County Animal Shelter, and several Public Health facilities. Our facilities range in age from 8 to 100 years, with equipment such as boilers, chillers, DDC controls, ventilation fans, pumps and compressors, and fire/life/safety systems

SCOPE OF JOB DUTIES:
In order to be considered for this exciting opportunity, the successful candidate at minimum will demonstrate skill and ability to:- Repair and maintain irrigation systems.
- Install, repair, and replace plumbing and mechanical systems and system components.
- Repair plumbing fixtures in the shop by re-facing, repacking, and resealing valves; cutting, threading, and bending pipe; replacing pump bushings and washers; and testing pressure equipment.
- Inspect water mains, sprinklers, fixtures, and other equipment to determine maintenance needs.
- Maintain induction and air handling units; clean and inspect all equipment.
- Maintain refrigeration service.
- Weld or fabricate plates, brackets, and pipes.
- Read and interpret blueprints and written instructions for plumbing repair and maintenance projects; provide time and material estimates on plumbing repair and maintenance projects.
- Clean, maintain, and repair power and hand tools used in plumbing assignments.
- Work in teams with steam fitters and other work group employees.
- Provide excellent customer service to the Division's clients.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Completed an apprenticeship program for plumbing and have at least three years' experience as a journey-level plumber, steam fitter, or refrigeration mechanic or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of this position.
- Experience with the installation and maintenance of pipe fitting, plumbing, refrigeration, and duct systems, including domestic water, wastewater, vent, irrigation, fire sprinkler, pumping, and HVAC closed loop systems.
- Experience with snaking & jetting sewers, using cameras & locating equipment.
- Experience in preparing cost estimates.
- Experience in the use, operation, and care of tools, machinery, and equipment used in the plumbing trade.
- Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing, read and interpret blueprints.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Uniform Plumbing Code and other related codes and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
- Experience building and maintaining positive relationships with multiple stakeholders and crew members; Customer focused.
- City of Seattle's Certification of Competency for installing, inspecting, testing and maintaining fire protection systems
- Backflow Testing License
At the time of appointment the candidate must have one of the following:- Washington State Plumber's License
- Certified Welder Card
- BTJ Steamfitter Card
- Journey-level Pipefitter Card
Final appointment is contingent upon successfully passing a thorough federal and county background investigation and clearing a pre-employment physical examination.- We are currently hiring to fill various shifts.
- This position is also required to be on a paid rotating standby list for non-duty days such as weekends and holidays.
- This position reports to the King County Courthouse in Downtown Seattle, however, may be relocated to other locations such as the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, WA.
- We are also creating a hiring list for any future positions that become available in the next 12 months.
- These positions are non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and are therefore overtime-eligible.
- Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, comprising a 40-hour workweek; schedule and work location are to be determined.
- Incumbents in these positions are represented by the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, Local 32.
- This position has been designated as essential personnel meaning an employee designated by their department leadership who provides for and maintains the functions of county essential services.
