Join our team! The Treasury Section is seeking a detail oriented Fiscal Specialist III to perform refunds, problem solve and reconcile property tax payments, and provide exceptional customer service. The person selected for this position should be dedicated to serving taxpayers with kindness and respect, and effectively work though a high volume of work with a keen eye toward detail and accuracy.
The Finance and Business Operations Division's mission is to provide timely, efficient and accurate accounting, procurement, treasury, payroll, benefits and small business services. Primary Responsibilities:- Understand and apply RCW and internal procedures to effectively problem solve, analyze and facilitate payment reconciliation and property tax account refunds.
- Accurately analyze and resolve property tax payment discrepancies; accurately research payment history and data related to tax accounts; work with staff, stakeholders and other departments to resolve payment issues related to tax roll changes.
- Maintain and populate complex spreadsheets; utilize various systems and tools needed to facilitate data interfaces, refunds and payment adjustments; understand, track and adjust funds and accounts as needed.
- Apply exceptional customer service skills; effectively communicate details related to property tax accounts and taxpayer issues
- Personally handle communications and responses to customer issues including payment, billing and collection issues.
- Draft letters and email communications; prepare and send statements, notices and warrants; organize, prepare and maintain records and reports to ensure that work is accomplished in accordance with objectives, procedures and State law.
- Utilize Lean tools and principles and apply process improvement techniques
Competitive Candidates will have:- Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills related to tax accounts, payments and process review.
- Demonstrated strong knowledge of statutes pertaining to property tax billing, collection and refunds.
- Exceptional skills serving customers in a large volume, fast pace environment
- Demonstrated exceptional attention to details and accuracy; apply outstanding time management and organizational skills needed to abide by time sensitive deadlines.
- Intermediate-level skill using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel; excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Advanced organizational skills and ability to perform work with limited direct supervision;
- A high level of initiative, self-starter with a focus on accomplishing goals.
Desirable Qualifications:- Experience using Oracle financial tools.
- Understand government fund accounting.
- Experience in property tax refunds or reconciling payment discrepancies.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement analysis and tools.
Other Position Information: This position is overtime-eligible. Our employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, comprising a 35-hour workweek; normally 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 117, Professional and Technical Employees.
