The LAN Administrator - Journey position for King County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) is part of a collaborative team of 11 other tech's tasked with providing a broad range of IT systems support for the entire KCSO organization; such as, supporting Sheriff's Office desktops, laptops, printers and servers at the core Precincts (Sammamish, Maple Valley and Burien). This is an excellent opportunity to focus on Account Management employee on-boarding and off-boarding in a multifaceted organization. Some minimal travel is also required to various locations in King County, WA. The current vacancy is located at Precinct #3, Maple Valley.
Work Schedule: Typical work hours are 40 hours per week, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Additional hours and/or modified schedules may be necessary to respond to workload needs, which may include evenings and weekends. This position is FLSA Exempt and is not overtime eligible.

- LAN Administrators may receive direction from the work area's Senior LAN Administrator or another more senior IT Systems Architect, Network Engineers or IT Manager / Supervisor. LAN Administrators may also provide work direction and guidance to Desktop Support Specialists or IT Technicians. In addition, many positions also have as a primary responsibility supporting a broad range of work area IT systems, including systems unique to the work area. Primary duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Serve as a Journey LAN Administrator to identify, design, implement, troubleshoot and plan network, hardware and software needs.
- Resolve problems for end users locally and remotely; maintain end user hardware and software; as needed direct or assist others in supporting end users.
- Resolve hardware and software problems on a variety of desktop and server systems.
- Optimize LAN performance and resolve LAN/WAN connectivity issues, escalate WAN issues to appropriate parties as needed.
- Coordinate IT services and related requirements for new locations and offices, working closely with central King County IT staff who manage the switches, network, and handles server storage/backups and other global Office 365 (Skype, Sharepoint and Exchange) services.
- Develop, document, and implement server configuration standards for assigned servers.
- Oversee or coordinate contact with other groups and outside agencies or software vendors to provide IT services.
- Research, evaluate and recommend new software and hardware technology products by building spec sheets and gathering options/quotes for manager approval.
- Purchase and install hardware and software in accordance with County standards and CJIS (Criminal Justice Information System) security rules.
- Train/advise and mentor other technical staff and officers who need hands on assistance.
- Work with peers to develop information technology policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring consistency with County polices.
- Evaluate impacts of County policy changes on LAN operations.
- Maintain technical documentation and modifications of application software/operating systems to achieve platform stability.
- Coordinate and communicate with appropriate information technology groups and business units when implementing technical changes.
- Serve as a member of project teams using industry-standard information technology project methodologies.
- Assist management in determining customer and staff training needs and contributes in the development, presentation, and maintenance of training materials.
- Record labor and service ticket requests in helpdesk management system, update and track IT assets in the system, as required.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Qualified candidates will possess at least three years' experience providing IT systems support, including knowledge of information systems, processes, techniques and computer technology principles. A combination of experience and/or education may be considered. Requirements for the position include:
- Desktop/laptop operating systems and applications (Windows 10).
- Server operation, administration, and configuration. Networking operating systems, configurations, commands, and network protocols.
- Microsoft Active Directory, the latest Windows Server 2012 or higher, Office 365, SKYPE, and MS Office 2016.
- Local area networks & related systems, hardware and software installation and configuration, systems integration, and wide area network connectivity issues.
- Data security systems, backup, disaster recovery and related processes.
- Demonstrated ability in evaluating and integrating new technologies.
- Skills in preparing purchase and technical bid specifications.
- Skill in developing and managing task estimates and setting realistic timelines.
- Experience working with strict change management and approval procedures and able to clearly communicate expectations and timelines to all levels of the organization, including chain of command protocols.
- Demonstrated skill in handling multiple competing priorities.
- Skill in working on a team & with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated skill in troubleshooting, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent oral & written communication skills (i.e. technical writing, documentation, training staff, etc.)
- A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with diverse populations.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:- Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), CompTIA Network+ Certified, or other technical certifications
- Experience supporting MS SQL, MS Windows Server - latest Version, Group Policy, Anti-Virus, 2-Factor Authentication, MDM (Mobile Device Management) Tools
- Experience coordinating moves and relocations, establishing new local area networks.
- Experience managing on-boarding and off-boarding IT systems support.
- Previous experience in a law enforcement agency
- Computer Science degree or related on the job work experience in IT support
- Security Frameworks, Audit Frameworks, such as government or federal related; example: CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Systems) Security policy knowledge.
