Who may apply: This represented position is open internally to all Metro/King County Vehicle
Maintenance employees who have completed two years of current, full-time journey level service at Metro within the Electronic Technician classification(overtime hours not applied) as of the closing date of this job announcement. This recruitment will be used to fill one current vacancy and may be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates for future vacancies and Special Duty Assignments that may occur. Eligibility lists are valid for twelve months, or until exhausted, at the discretion of the hiring authority.

Work schedule: The Vehicle Maintenance section operates three shifts (day, swing and graveyard) seven days a week at various locations throughout King County. Openings may occur on all shifts. Swing and graveyard shift employees receive a shift differential. Employees work a 40 hour per week schedule with two consecutive days off, but not necessarily Saturday and Sunday. Work schedules and locations are based on a seniority system, which occurs three times a year. Hours and shifts may vary.
This position is not exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is overtime eligible with supervisory approval.

In addition to performing the full range of responsibilities of the Electronic Technician
classification, an incumbent in this classification performs the following:- Assign work to Electronic Technicians and other personnel in accordance with automated reports, work orders and requests from within vehicle maintenance, schedules and operating requirements; control and monitor work flow.
- Train new and current personnel in required aspects of established electronic repair standards and practices; train employees on shop and base hazards and safety protocols and procedures.
- Coordinate and provide technical assistance to Electronic Technicians in diagnosing, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing electrical and electronic systems and components.
- Inspect work assignments to ensure work has been completed in a quality manner and equipment is in proper working order; assign or perform the inspection of equipment repaired to ensure work conforms to established electronic repair standards and practices.
- Respond to questions and provide advice on related problems and repair; provide lead direction to other skilled employees on assigned projects.
- Keep current with the latest service bulletins and advisories as well as equipment modifications and enhancements to advise Electronic Technicians accordingly.
- Provide feedback to supervisory staff on employee and team performance as well as any behavioral and attendance issues.
- Ensure all test and shop equipment is maintained appropriately and is in proper operating condition; maintain security of electronic test equipment, tools and related items.
- Advise Electronic Technicians when their work is deficient or is in violation of established regulations and procedures; recommend corrective actions to supervisory staff when required.
- Assist other staff with electrical troubleshooting.
- Implement continuous improvement measures including lean principles.
- Review records and notes of completed calibrations, preventive maintenance, repairs, and materials used; enter and extract data using an automated information maintenance management system.

- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Two years of current, full-time journey level service at Metro within the Transit Electronic Technician classification demonstrating the following:
Knowledge of applicable service standards, operating policies and regulations.- Knowledge of the latest developments in electronic theory, circuitry, equipment and repair processes.
- Experience working around high voltage in accordance with applicable safety legislation and guidelines.
- Proficiency in using Vehicle Maintenance's computer software work order system, to include data entry, extraction and equipment dispatch.
- Skill in conflict management.
- Skill in facilitating creative ideas.
- Skill in training and providing technical assistance.
- Skill in detail orientation of tasks; workload planning and scheduling, and tracking multiple projects, etc.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to direct and/or respond to a diverse group of individuals (e.g. employees, other base leads, internals, etc.).
- Excellent customer service skills using follow through and probing while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Skill in planning, assigning, balancing and checking work.
- Skill in handling multiple competing priorities.
- Skill in critical thinking to make independent decisions.
- Ability to lead or direct a crew of technical staff.
- Experience in developing and coordinating training in support of electronic repair standards, on shop and base hazards and safety protocols and procedures.
- Supplemental Information
This position is considered safety sensitive. Applicants for positions defined as safety sensitive
are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and, subsequent to commencement of
employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty and
follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled
substances testing program protocols.
Selection Process:
Part 1: A record review will be completed on applicants who meet the minimum qualifications as described above. The record review will be conducted based upon the work record calculations criteria described in this announcement (see below). Successful applicants will proceed to Part 2 of the recruitment process.
Part 2: Candidates will be invited to participate in one or more panel interviews. Candidates will not be allowed to bring notes or other written materials into or out of the interview.
Part 3: Transit management will make the final selection of candidate(s) to be hired and/or placed on an eligibility list based on the outcome of the recruitment process.
Work Record Calculation Criteria:
Work record calculations will be based on the employee's most recent twenty-four (24) months of full-time work history at King County Metro. For this recruitment, the period from 08/24/17 through 08/24/19 will be reviewed.
Employees must have worked at least 1,200 hours in each of the last twelve (12) months. For employees that may have worked less than 1,200 hours per year due to FMLA protected leave, records will be reviewed beyond twenty-four (24) months for the equivalent amount of leave time.
Employees with an annual performance appraisal rating in the previous twenty-four (24) months lower than 3.00 (satisfactory) will not be considered for this recruitment. Applicants with a record review totaling fifteen (15) or more points will not continue in the selection process.
Points will be assigned within each of the following work record categories:- Unexcused Absences 8 points each (previous 12 months)
- Late Occurrences 3 points each (previous 180 days)
- Major/Serious Infractions 15 points (previous 24 months)
- Minor Infractions 5 points (previous 12 months)
- Suspension or decision making leave 10 points (previous 24 months)
