- Summary
The Civil Division of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office provides comprehensive legal services to King County government, including all County elected and appointed officials, department heads, and with the managers of numerous county agencies and departments. Serving in its role as an in-house law firm for the County, the Civil Division works closely with its clients in solving a wide range of legal problems by providing legal advice and representing King County and its employees in lawsuits filed in state or federal courts. The Civil Division is comprised of lawyers and staff organized into seven sections.

The Legal Secretary provides full clerical support for a group of Prosecuting Attorneys in the Litigation Section of the Civil Division. The duties assigned to this position include: preparation of correspondence and legal documents from rough draft through final copy in proper legal format; receiving callers in person and by phone; maintaining files (physical and electronic); arranging for timely filing and service of pleadings, documents, maintaining and updating the case management system, scheduling motions, special settings with judges and opposing counsel; preparing notes for motion; as well as coordinating depositions and witness interviews; maintaining attorney calendars and scheduling meetings/appointments and other work as assigned. The Legal Secretary also works closely with the Paralegals to prepare the lawsuits for litigation. This can include assisting with managing electronic discovery, trial preparation; and summarization of medical and billing records.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
Experience using document management software required.
Skill in typing minimum 45 wpm.
Excellent spelling, grammar and organizational skills.
Excellent time-management skills to effectively and accurately handle multiple tasks, often with short deadlines.
Knowledge of local, state and federal court rules and procedures required.
Civil litigation experience required.
Ability to use independent judgment, exercise initiative, anticipate needs, and respond appropriately.
Ability to demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
Must be able/willing to accept supervision and receive instructions/feedback, coaching and counseling.
This position requires moving or lifting heavy objects, such as boxes of books, papers, etc. that weigh 20-25 pounds.

This position is represented by Teamsters Local No. 117.
Must pass Criminal History Background check to include fingerprinting.
