- Summary
Public Health - Seattle & King County (PHSKC) is seeking a Nutritionist I to provide First Steps (Maternity Support Services and Infant Case Management) and WIC services within the context of a multidisciplinary team including Nutrition Assistants/WIC Certifiers, Public Health Nurses, Registered Dietitians, Social Workers, and Community Health Workers.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Nutritionist committed to working with pregnant women and children under five years of age providing both WIC and First Steps services to clients at our White Center Public Health Clinic and our satellite at HealthPoint Midway in Des Moines. In order to meet our client's needs, this position may be required to work at various Public Health Centers and sites throughout King County. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, flexibility, kindness, positivity, and be team-oriented. Applicants bilingual in English and Spanish are desired.
Nutritionists are responsible for providing direct nutrition services, including breastfeeding support, to individuals and groups as part of a client-centered Public Health WIC and First Steps clinic.

WORK SCHEDULE: This full-time (1.0FTE) Career Service position. This position will work 40 hours per week and may include Saturdays (based on clinic service needs). It is subject to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime.
WORK LOCATION: This position will primarily work at White Center Public Health Center, 9934 SW 8th Ave, Seattle, WA and our satellite clinic at Midway HealthPoint in Des Moines. However, in an effort to meet our clients' needs this position may be required to work at various Public Health Centers and sites throughout King County or through home visiting, as well as a rotating Saturday schedule.

- Job Duties
- Conduct individual sessions to assess client's nutritional needs using anthropometric, biochemical, clinical and dietary information; implement and document care plan.
- Assess the changing needs of medically complex and high-risk clients, primarily pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and children.
- Coordinate care with team members and other health care providers and make referrals to appropriate services; provide and document case management, as appropriate.
- Accurately obtain and document anthropometric measurements for infants, children and adults.
- Provide breastfeeding education and support to pregnant women and new mothers.
- Regularly utilize clinic practice management software and data systems, including CIMS and Epic.
- Actively participate in Quality Assurance activities and WIC Program Self Audits of service delivery throughout the year.
- Assist with completing the yearly WIC Nutrition Education Plan and other projects as needed.
- Orient new staff to clinic and WIC program as requested; occasionally provide discipline-specific training at various staff meetings.
- Precept nutrition interns from various educational institutions.
- Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy services to children and adults.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Current Registered Dietitian (RD) registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration or have the ability to attain registration by date of hire.
- Bachelor or Masters of Science or MPH in Nutrition required.
- Must be Washington State Certified Dietitian or have an application in process and able to obtain within 30 days.
- Candidates selected will also be required to successfully complete the department credentialing process and maintain credentialing for the duration of employment.
- A National Provider Identification (NPI) must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
- Ability to obtain Washington State Medical Assistant-Registered or Phlebotomist license within 30 days of hire in order to perform hemoglobin/hematocrit testing on WIC participants.
- Documentation of current BLS CPR certification with AED training required at time of offer. CPR/AED Heartsaver courses do not meet this requirement.
- Experience providing direct client nutrition services.
- Knowledge of theoretical and practical principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics.
- Ability to maintain positive interpersonal interactions with clients and co-workers as a member of a multi-disciplinary public health team with a diverse, multi-cultural population.
- Demonstrated experience providing nutrition education in a group setting; as well as clear ability to organize, lead, and facilitate group discussions and staff training.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully perform a number of tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines and work under strict time constraints and remain flexible to changing work responsibilities based on staffing.
- Public Health relies on computer technology and web-based tools; candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with ongoing work.
- Ability to travel in a timely manner within King County to locations that may have limited access to public transportation.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the work.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with WIC Client Information Management System (CIMS) and/or Epic electronic health record (EHR).
- Work experience providing WIC and/or First Steps (Maternity Support Services and Infant Case Management).
- Work experience providing training on nutrition services and principles to other staff.
- Established knowledge of local health and social service resources available in the community and skill in establishing working relationships with community partners.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (desired, but not required).
