- Summary
The King County Executive's Office of Performance, Strategy and Budget (PSB) is hiring four (4) summer interns to work with several different teams within the office.
PSB Interns will gain a first-hand understanding of public administration, project management, and enterprise management programs. Interns are expected to use this opportunity to build their professional portfolio by completing designated projects, but also to expand their professional network by meeting with staff throughout the county, enroll in relevant county training courses, and take advantage of other offerings available to county employees such as lunch and learns or other events.

The Office of Performance, Strategy and Budget (PSB) is in the Executive department of King County government. It serves as a resource to the County's departments and agencies in developing and implementing budgets, strategic plans, business plans, financial plans, visual management tools, continuous improvement processes, and performance metrics. It is also responsible for regional planning and implementation of Lean process improvement. WORK SCHEDULE FOR ALL INTERNSHIPS: The work schedule will be Monday-Friday. The workweek will consist of a minimum of 20 to a maximum of 40 hours (see each internship description for specific hours). These internships will last from early June to mid-August, although the position may begin later or end later depending on project and scheduling needs.

PROJECT TWO
The second opportunity with PSB for the summer of 2019 is in the area of performance working primarily with members of the performance and strategy team. Are you committed to government providing open and transparent information about its performance to taxpayers? Would you enjoy having a birds-eye view into the wide spectrum of services that county government provides the region? Do you enjoy the creative work of visualizing data to tell compelling stories?
This program will primarily focus on creating a public performance website to provide accountability and transparency of the County's work to the public. The report will use a Results-Based Accountability framework to provide data and narrative about the status of the Executive's priority initiatives in alignment with the King County Strategic Plan.
The intern will help develop interactive dashboards and content to tell the story of the County's performance in collaboration with executive departments.
EXPERIENCE & RESPONSIBILITIES
This opportunity is open to current undergraduate students with some post-secondary educational experience in related subject areas.
Basic experience and interest in business intelligence, data tools, data-informed decision-making, performance measurement and management, strategic planning, and/or data visualization and design.
