Pharmacy Technician
- Summary
The Position:
The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist by processing prescriptions, maintaining patient profiles, filling orders, ordering medications, maintaining pharmaceutical inventory, and assuring that the pharmacy program is in compliance with all relevant state and federal rules and regulations. This position operates under the direct oversight and control of a licensed pharmacist.
Who May Apply: This Float Pool (Short-Term Temporary) position is open to all qualified applicants.
Work Location: King County Public Health Pharmacies which include two correctional facilities and two primary care facilities.
Work Schedule: This is a short-term temporary float pool position that may have various work schedule depending on the backfill needs. The work hours will vary between 6:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m, or 8:00am – 5:00pm, Holidays and weekends may be included.

Examples of Duties:- Process prescriptions and maintain patient profiles in pharmacy computer system.
- Accurately interpret prescriptions including drug name, strength, directions, dosage forms and generic equivalents.
- Re-package and label prescribed medications.
- Maintain inventory control including purchasing, receiving and placing in stock all drug and pharmacy supplies.
- Update and maintain effective drug inventories based on use or projected use.
- Deliver drug orders and re-stock appropriate drug storage locations throughout Jail Health Services.
- Maintain security measures to properly safeguard drug inventory.
- Maintain and monitor records for returns and outdated drugs from throughout the facility and return outdated merchandise and recalled drugs to manufacturer.
Qualifications:- Demonstrated knowledge of the legal requirements of a Pharmacy Technician.
- Must possess a Washington State Pharmacy Technician License by time of hire.
- Demonstrated knowledge of drug names, strength, dosage forms, generic equivalents and storage requirements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of pharmacy practices and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to work with pharmacy software.
- Basic mathematics calculation skills.
- Organization skills.
- Time management skills.
- Demonstrated communication (oral and written) skills.
- Demonstrated skill in working in a team environment.
- Demonstrated skill in data entry, personal computers, and Microsoft Office programs Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Desired Qualifications:- The most competitive candidates will have experience working in a correctional facility and experience working with an electronic health record system.
Necessary Special Requirements:- An offer of employment will be contingent on passing a pre-employment physical exam (should be able to lift 50 pounds, move quickly up and down stairs, crouching/bending to perform CPR).
- The selected candidate must pass a thorough background investigation.
- The person hired into this position will be required to adhere to the policies of the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (in addition to those of the Public Health Department) in meeting and maintaining the standards required, including Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards, for continued access to the facility as well as other standards related to conduct. Public Health relies on office automation (Microsoft Office) and web-based enabled tools, therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.
Employees are required to adhere to OSHA/WISHA guidelines including but not limited to completing their mandatory trainings on time and obtaining required immunizations.
Regular and reliable attendance, effective communication skills, and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all Public Health positions.
