Public Health – Seattle & King County (PHSKC) is looking for a talented lead physician in Addiction Medicine to support the work of PHSKC in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services that address the opioid crisis. The candidate will be part of Downtown Public Health Clinic Leadership Team and will be accountable for the clinical oversight of the Buprenorphine (Bupe) Pathways clinical team. The position will also provide consultations and support the work of other King County operations in primary care, behavioral health, and MAT services.
The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about Public Health approach to opioid crisis and ways to serve vulnerable populations in integrated whole-person care. The candidate also possesses excellent leadership and communication skills, quality improvement knowledge, and strong clinical experience in managing substance use disorder and primary care health conditions.
The position reports directly to the Medical Officer of Community Health Services Division and Area Manager of Downtown Public Health Center and is expected to collaborate closely with program management staff.

Work Schedule:
Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 40 hours per week and may be required to work outside of these hours. May also be required to work evenings, nights, weekends and holidays when assigned to after clinic hours on-call duties or as needed.
Work Location:
Based out of the Downtown Public Health Center in Seattle. On occasion or as needed, the position may be deployed to other Public Health Centers and service sites throughout King County.

Examples of Duties:
- Provide leadership, clinical supervision and training to the Bupe Pathways clinical staff members, other clinical staff, medical residents and fellows.
- Diagnose and provide direct clinical service and medical treatment to patients with substance use disorder or with primary care service needs.
- Provide consultations to nursing staff and clinicians, both in Bupe Pathways clinic and at other King County clinical sites.
- Document clinical evaluation, diagnosis, procedures, treatment, outcomes, referrals and consultations.
- Perform Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance work, including chart reviews and performance reviews of clinical staff, to ensure compliance with clinical service quality.
- Work collaboratively with clinic supervisor and program manager to ensure effective patient workflow and supervision of the care team.
- Review policies, procedures, and guidelines; analyze evidence-based data and publications; and write findings, recommendations, manuals and reports.
- Organize and lead meetings and present relevant topics to clinical and non-clinical audiences.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the position's scope.
Qualifications:
- High degree of familiarity with local Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services and Public Health – Seattle & King County programs that address opioid use disorder.
- Significant clinical experience in a primary care setting and in managing substance use disorder in vulnerable patients with history of homelessness, incarceration, and behavioral health conditions.
- Understanding of the role of Public Health in promoting health and well-being across the life-span and addressing the social determinants of health.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and social justice.
- Demonstrated experience leading and working in teams and a desire to work in a multidisciplinary team which includes clinicians, nurses, medical assistants, social workers, community health workers, and other care team members.
- Demonstrated ability in problem solving, triage decisions, and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and navigate complex health and social services systems.
- Demonstrated ability to understand quality assurance and quality improvement techniques.
- Skill in organization and knowledge of time management techniques in a health care setting.
- Experience in electronic health record documentation.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- A National Provider Identification (NPI) must be obtained prior to employment.
- Washington State Medical License must be obtained prior to employment.
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration must be obtained prior to employment.
- A physician waiver to prescribe buprenorphine under the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 (DATA 2000).
- Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine preferred.
- Board certification in Addiction Medicine preferred.
