WORK SCHEDULE: The treatment plants are operated 24/7. This position currently works a 4 x 10 schedule. Applicants must be available to work any assigned schedule. This is a non-permanent role, with each rotation lasting 3-4 months depending on business needs.
JOB SUMMARY: The responsibilities of this classification include overseeing, planning and scheduling the day-to-day activities of a large crew or workgroup. The Crew Chief will provide crew performance feedback to the supervisor and resolve minor performance and behavior issues occurring in the field. Incumbents in this classification will be required to perform as a working Crew Chief performing the basic maintenance and facility maintenance coordination duties. These duties are not associated with journey-level work in any skilled trade.- Job Duties
- Working with their immediate supervisor, plan, organize and schedule daily work activities of one or more crews; obtain prior approval to change schedules and activities when necessary; ensure required materials and equipment are available to perform assigned work.
- Oversee the work performed by assigned crews or work units who repair and maintain a variety of facilities in WTD in plant and off-site; ensure compliance with applicable standards, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; resolve minor performance and behavior problems occurring in the field; refer more serious issues to Supervisor for appropriate action.
- Investigate, resolve and/or recommend a resolution of citizen complaints; refer complex and sensitive issues to Supervisor.
- Prepare job estimates for review/approval of Supervisor.
- Respond to emergencies such as floods, snow and ice storms, etc.
- Coordinate with agencies in Washington State, King County and city on timing and location of maintenance or repair work.
- Identify and recommend training for crew members.
- Provide input to supervisor on employee performance evaluations.
- Monitor job site safety, identifying safety hazards and unsafe practices; correct problems or recommend corrective action when problems are identified.
- Prepare and maintain records and reports to ensure that the work is accomplished efficiently and in compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Knowledge equivalent to or three (3) years' journey-level experience in Facility
- Maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment plant
- Knowledge of King County, Washington State and federal laws and regulations pertaining to wastewater treatment
- Knowledge of workload planning principles
- Knowledge of job/project estimating principles and techniques
- Knowledge of building, crafts and mechanical trades
- Knowledge of safety procedures
- Knowledge of conflict resolution techniques and supervisory skills
- Skill in reading blueprints and schematic drawings
- Skill in communications (oral and written)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Skill in computers, Mainsaver and Work Order processing
- Skill in Project development

- A valid Driver's License
- Commercial Driver's License Class A endorsement (required by the start of rotation)
- Air brake and tanker endorsement (required)
- Pesticide applicator license (required)
- Hazmat endorsement (highly desired)
- Flagging and traffic control certifications (desired)
- Forklift certification (desired)
Additional licenses, certifications and other requirements determined to be necessary to meet the business needs of the employing unit may be required.
