King County's Department of Elections is seeking a creative and innovative Senior Graphic Designer to provide graphic design and election material development for the communications team. King County Elections (KCE) manages voter registrations and elections for the nearly 1.3 million voters in King County, the largest vote-by-mail county in the United States. Who May Apply: This full time position is open to the general public and all King County employees.
Required Application Materials: Applicants must submit a (1) King County Application, (2) resume, (3) letter of interest, and (4) at least 2 recent, relevant graphic work samples (excerpts from longer documents are acceptable). The letter of interest should describe how your education and experience meet the qualifications and have prepared you to perform the essential functions of the job. Work Schedule: The workweek is typically 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Mandatory overtime (including weekends or evenings) will be required during elections and other peak work periods. This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore not eligible for overtime.
- Job Duties
- Create visual concepts and design to inform and capture the interest and attention of King County's voting public.
- Coordinate, plan, design and produce a broad spectrum of communication materials such as reports, brochures, social media graphics, signage, posters, and educational and GOTV videos.
- Coordinate and layout the local voters' pamphlet.
- Create original illustrative art such as drawings, illustrations, charts and graphs.
- Produce advertising to support various campaigns based on the department's brand and key messages.
- Manage design related services provided by external vendors.
- Develop and maintain graphic standards and provide technical assistance to staff.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Recent experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator).
- Experience shooting and editing video for digital platforms professionally.
- Passionate about creating amazing visual experiences.
- Effective leader and team player with positive attitude and collaborative mindset.
- Knowledge of current graphic, social media and marketing trends.
- Ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, organize work assignments and set priorities.
- Ability to manage and evaluate projects and programs.
- A desire to help ensure the democratic process through public service.
- Skill in communications (oral and written).
WE'D LOVE IT IF YOU HAD:
- Working knowledge of the elections process.
- Experience with GovDelivery.com digital messaging system or other digital signage system.
