Transit Custodian II
- Summary
The responsibilities of this classification include performing heavy industrial cleaning in transit bases, maintenance facilities and other transit properties and structures including the Metro tunnel.
In addition to filling current vacancies, this recruitment may be used to establish an eligibility list to fill other career service and temporary vacancies that may occur over the next twelve months.
Note: Additional premium pay amounts are provided when working swing and graveyard shifts.

Work Location
Metro has multiple locations throughout King County. Location based on seniority based pick-process, held twice a year. Employees must be willing to work at any location. Some locations do not have bus service; therefore, you must have reliable transportation.
Work Schedule
This position normally works a 40-hour work week and is overtime eligible. Shifts vary based on a seniority based pick-process, held twice a year. Work locations are staffed seven days a week. Shifts may be day, swing or graveyard, and may include any combination of days off.

- Job Duties
- Contain and clean up fuel or oil spills.
- Steam clean or pressure wash drains, trenches, and sub-surface maintenance areas.
- Steam clean or pressure wash rooms and shop walls, up to 40 feet in height, using various lifting equipment.
- Clean and sanitize elevators, lunchrooms, and restrooms including tables, chairs, toilets, showers, sinks and walls.
- Scrub various types of floors such as concrete, tile, vinyl, granite, marble; spray/buff floors.
- Sweep, clear snow and clean facility perimeters.
- Set up, take down and arrange furniture as needed.
- Dust, wash and vacuum surfaces; clean glass windows, clean/remove graffiti off walls, windows and other surfaces.
- Empty trash dumpsters; empty trash containers either using a forklift and/or manually.
- Request and stock various types of supplies, stock lunchrooms and restrooms.
- Safely operate various pieces of equipment such as vacuums, buffers, carpet cleaners, floor scrubbers, shop vacs, steam cleaners and pressure washers.
- Ensure care and proper operation of equipment.
- Use good judgment and wear personal protective equipment when necessary.
- Drive a company vehicle when necessary.

- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience cleaning industrial or heavy maintenance workshop environments.
- Demonstrated ability to use heavy and/or motorized cleaning equipment, such as motorized scrubbers and pressurized equipment.
- Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques in an industrial, shop or heavy maintenance environment.
- Knowledge in the proper use and disposal of cleaning chemicals.
- Basic oral and written communication skills including the ability to understand and follow directions.
- Skill in reading, following and safely handling cleaning supplies per manufacturer's instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a crew.
- Ability to perform repetitious job tasks, such as mopping, cleaning toilets and sweeping.
- Skill in dealing proactively and sensitively with customers.
- Ability to accept direct supervision, follow written or verbal directions.
- Skill in working with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain a standardized work pace and skill in performing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to have predictable, reliable and timely attendance.
- One year of recent professional industrial cleaning/janitorial experience: motorized scrubbers and pressure washing equipment.
- A valid Washington State Driver's License and an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel to assigned METRO base locations throughout the county.
- Constantly lift, carry and move objects up to 25 pounds.
- Lift and move up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Work at heights reaching up to 40 feet.
- Walk continuously throughout the workday.
Working Environment
Must be able to work from high places using mechanical lift devices; work is performed both indoors, outdoors and in inclement weather.

Selection Process
