Ventilation Systems Coordinator

Position Summary
This position serves as a program and technical lead that coordinates with the Rail SCADA and Facilities sections and Sound Transit to conduct quarterly inspections of the ventilation systems in Link Light Rail tunnels and stations. Qualifying candidates will have experience with complex fire, life, and safety systems, including ventilation systems, and how they interface with a SCADA system. Candidates will need to obtain and maintain Brycer reporting Certifications for the local fire department and maintain an impairment and deficiency log.

Link Light Rail, operated by King County Metro Transit, is a 20.3 mile light rail line from University of Washington to Angle Lake.
Safety-Sensitive Position
This position is considered safety-sensitive. Applicants for these positions are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substance testing program protocols.

Work Schedule
This position is Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act regulations and therefore not eligible for overtime pay. Shifts will normally be day shift but may include day, swing and night as needed. The standard workweek is 40 hours, but scheduled hours may vary. This position has 24/7 on-call responsibilities and must respond to emergency situations as needed. During periods of confidence testing, the position requires working the graveyard shift.

- Job Duties
Applying equity and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. - Provide subject matter expertise on testing, support, maintenance and repair of SCADA-integrated ventilation and fire, life and safety, and related communication systems
- Coordinate testing procedures with various teams and confirm all preparations are in place prior to testing
- Oversee testing performed by the King County Metro test teams
- Coordinate with Sound Transit fire system specialists for testing
- Initiate and verify with all teams that all components of system have functioned as intended per the Emergency Response Matrix
- Note any discrepancies and facilitate immediate corrections, if possible
- Communicate promptly with Superintendent of Communications and Link Control Center any time a potential deficiency or impairment may affect revenue operations
- At conclusion of testing, establish a phone bridge and chair a debrief
- Note any impairments and work with Sound Transit to report per established procedures
- Fill out and send Brycer reports to the fire authority having jurisdiction
- Update and maintain vent mode test procedures, forms, and checklists
- Collect field test sheets from test teams and review with Sound Transit
- Coordinate upload of all test data to KCM SharePoint sites
- Email maintenance repair level items to Sound Transit
- Meet monthly, and as needed, with Sound Transit and KCM management and appropriate contractors for scheduling repairs and reporting progress
- Consult with engineering, warranty, safety, environmental, materials, transportation, and other staff in the development of maintenance programs and standard operating procedures
- Major impairments may require staying on duty for extended hours
- Due to the time sensitive nature of fire life safety system functionality this position is on call 24/7
- Represent KCM on various committee and task forces as assigned

Qualifications
Highly competitive candidates will have experience working with complex fire, life and safety systems including ventilation systems. Other qualifications are:
- Working knowledge of the theory, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fire, life and safety systems
- Working knowledge of SCADA and communications systems principles and techniques
- Working knowledge of emergency fan posturing to ensure adequate push/pull dynamic
- Working knowledge of NFPA 72, NFPA 92, NFPA 130 and NFPA 204 guidelines
- Knowledge of principles of quality assurance, including preventative maintenance
- Knowledge of theory, operation, and use of SCADA interface to report issues with fire, life, and safety systems
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Skill in conveying technical information to non-technical users
- Knowledge of appropriate national, state and local codes and means of compliance
- Skill in maintaining technical documentation and configuration control
- Skill in planning, scheduling, prioritizing, and organizing disparate work groups for optimal effectiveness and efficiency while meeting established standards and deadlines
- Advanced troubleshooting, analytical, and problem solving skills
- Able to stay current and learn new technologies
- Ability to establish and maintain a productive and motivational testing environment, and cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to alternate between a graveyard work schedule and a regular work schedule depending on testing requirements
Desirable Qualifications (not required)- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Fire Science, or other degree related to this position

- Valid Washington State Driver's License (Out-of-state candidates must acquire Washington State license prior to hire) and acceptable driving record.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain (at our cost) Seattle Fire Department SC-ITM and FA-ITM Certifications to complete various Brycer reports
Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors and in inclement weather. Position requires minimal physical skill and effort beyond the use of everyday office equipment and supplies and may require stooping or bending motions when inspecting work.
