NOTE: This recruitment will be used to fill two term limited temporary (TLT) positions or special duty assignments. The position is expected to start in August of 2019 and is anticipated to end no earlier than August of 2021. If filled internally as a Special Duty Assignment (SDA), pay and duration will be in accordance with Personnel Guidelines or selected employee's collective bargaining agreement. This posting may be used to establish a list of qualified candidates for position openings in the following six months.
WORK LOCATION: The primary work location is the Wastewater Treatment Division's West Point Treatment Plant (1400 Discovery Park Blvd Seattle WA) or Brightwater Treatment Plant (22505 State Route 9 S.E. Woodinville, WA).
WORK SCHEDULE: This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not overtime eligible. The workweek is 40 hours, Monday through Friday, from 8AM to 5PM. Alternate work schedules may be approved.
OVERVIEW King County's Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) is an industry-leading resource recovery and water reclamation agency serving King County, Washington including the City of Seattle. WTD is seeking two Energy Engineers to fill integral roles in its Energy Program, focused on identifying, evaluating and coordinating energy efficiency efforts at our treatment plants. King County has adopted a bold Strategic Climate Action Plan and WTD recently updated its Energy Plan to guide the division's efforts to design and operate energy efficient wastewater treatment facilities and maximize the renewable resources used or captured in the process. This position reports to the Sustainability and Innovation Program Supervisor.

- Job Duties
- Facilitate implementation of energy efficiency measures at treatment plant
- Manage energy audit of treatment plant
- Apply for and secure utility energy efficiency incentive grants from local utilities
- Track and model treatment plant's normalized energy use and greenhouse gas emissions
- Track projected and actual impacts of completed and planned capital projects at plant
- Develop continually improved uses for plant's power monitoring system
- Represent energy interests on capital projects
- Provide support to update technical standards and design guidelines for energy efficiency
- Facilitate meetings and represent energy on various cross-division teams and work groups
- Provide strategic energy-related advice and data support to internal staff

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field and four years of engineering work commensurate with an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) registration is highly desired, or equivalent related experience.

The most competitive candidates will be engineers, analysts or technical staff with experience in industrial facilities, energy, and technical data analysis. Additionally, they will have the following experiences and qualifications:- Demonstrated Excel-based data analysis skills and ability to illustrate analysis in effective graphical format.
- Demonstrated success working independently or as a productive and engaged member of a project team.
- Demonstrated ability to experiment to find creative solutions; adaptable to change and able to remain open to new ideas and ways of doing things; customer service oriented.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including demonstrated ability to effectively interpret technical information for non-technical audiences simply, clearly and concisely.
- Skills in comprehending, analyzing and interpreting technical information for targeted audiences
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:- A valid state of Washington driver's license will be required for travel to field locations where no public transportation services are available.
- Possession of an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification is highly desired. A professional engineer's license or registration as an architect in the state of Washington is desirable.
