COVID-19 Specialist
About the Position
Lewis & Clark College invites applications for a COVID-19 Specialist. The COVID-19 Specialist is responsible for supervising a variety of special programs related to COVID-19. These programs are focused on supporting the health and well-being of individuals as well as the community at large. These programs include case management of symptomatic students, and students in isolation and quarantine; contact tracing; coordination of testing clinics; providing public health consultation to community members; and other COVID-related programs necessary to support community health. As a staff member within Wellness Services, the COVID-19 Specialist complies with Oregon statutes related to medical privacy; FERPA; and Lewis & Clark policy and procedures related to the handling of personally identifiable information.
This position is full-time, and currently funded through May 15, 2022, with funding past that dependent on budget allocation. This position involves some evening and weekend work hours.

What You'll Do

Supervise a Care Manager, who will provide logistical support for programs.

Supervise the execution of COVID-19 testing clinics. Conduct data reporting from those testing clinics.

Supervise the provision of care management and support related to students with COVID-19 infections.

Supervise the provision isolation and quarantine housing on-campus (e.g., meals, access to medication, mail, laundry).

Supervise the contact tracing program for students, employees, and contracted staff. This includes executing contact tracing, as well as training and supervising other staff who will assist in this process. This also includes routing students into isolation or quarantine housing; providing them with public health consultation and referrals to medical or other care; identifying close contacts; and engaging close contacts, providing them with public health guidance and referrals to testing and/or other follow-up care.

Maintaining multiple spreadsheets to track students who need testing, students in isolation, and other students with specific needs.

Oversee the process of reviewing COVID-19 vaccine documentation for students, and provide regular reports on student compliance with the vaccination policy.

Conduct initial reviews of all COVID-19 vaccination requests, rendering decisions on requests of low complexity, while referring high-complexity requests to the Associate Dean of Students for Health and Wellness.

Author drafts of guidance related to public health issues, posting finalized guidance to the Health Promotion webpage.

Provide individualized public health guidance to community members during work hours, e.g., in the case of individuals who may have been exposed to COVID-19.

Provide programmatic public health consultation to department managers and supervisors (e.g., related to best practices for hosting campus events).

Provide after-hours public health consultation as part of a team of staff responsible for staffing the COVID-consultant-on-call rotation.

Maintain appropriate documentation of engagement with community members in the electronic health records database.

Participate in regular meetings of the Wellness COVID-19 Leadership Team.

Monitor the institution’s COVID-19 e-mail account on a daily basis; determine the most appropriate response for each e-mail; and then either respond to individual e-mails, or route them to the person who is best situated to respond.

Provide all service in keeping with relevant legal, ethical and professional standards for the delivery of public health services.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Social Work or related field.
- Commitment and experience working with persons of color; persons who identify as multiracial; ethnically and culturally diverse individuals; LGBTQIA+ individuals; persons with disabilities; and other diverse individuals.
- Knowledge of effective health communication principles, methods, and procedures
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work effectively in teams
- Proficient in word-processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders
- Supervision skills
Work Schedule
- Full-time (1.0 FTE)
- 37.5 hours per week
- Requires some evening and weekend hours
