Learning Specialist Long-term Substitute 4th and 5th Grades

The learning specialist substitute will work with the 4th and 5th grade teams to support learning in the classrooms. This substitute position is for at least through November 1, 2020. This position will support students in flexible learning groups and occasionally in a whole-class setting. This position will use both data and anecdotal observation to analyze grade-level trends and student needs. This faculty member will collaborate with classroom faculty, associate faculty, and the Learning Specialists to differentiate teaching, the curriculum, and the learning environment to support and challenge diverse learners.
Responsibilities
- Deliver explicit, targeted instruction to small groups of students based on data analysis and anecdotal observation
- Provide targeted instruction to support or extend students’ mastery of grade level standards
- Maintain data collection tools
- Analyze data for individual students and to look for grade level trends
- Collaborate with classroom and associate faculty to provide differentiated instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners
- Develop enrichment activities for students who are already achieving grade level standards
Job Requirements:
- A teaching certification; Master’s in Education and endorsement in special education or gifted education preferred
- A minimum of three years classroom teaching experience specifically working with learning differences
- Knowledge and experience with effective classroom management strategies
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Flexibility and the ability to be a self-starter
