The Northshore School District has the eighth-largest pupil enrollment in Washington State with approximately 23,000 students enrolled in grades K-12. The district contains approximately 125,000 residents and encompasses 60 square miles, stretching from Lake Washington on the west to the Snoqualmie River Valley on the east, and from Mill Creek and Maltby on the north to Redmond and Juanita on the south. Building on a strong base of public education founded in the community in 1878, Northshore offers comprehensive, rigorous and equitable educational opportunities to all learners, including challenge, pre AP/IB and AP courses, an International Baccalaureate diploma, multiple alternative education settings; a nationally recognized music and fine arts program; diversified career and technical education offerings; an outdoor education program; and strong special and compensatory education programs. The district employs 2,400 people, of which approximately 1,400 are certificated. The District provides a spectrum of induction support to new teachers, including central and building level mentorship, and is committed to the ongoing professional development of staff through course offerings and weekly early release for teacher collaboration and planning. The district lies within close proximity of several universities and community colleges for continuing education. SCOPE OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position reports to the Director of Student Services in the administration of the district's Health Services and Nursing Program by serving as the program manager for comprehensive school health and a liaison between nursing staff and administration. Responsibilities also include; coordinating and implementing the ATOD Prevention/Intervention program and assisting schools and departments with student mental health support.
- Responsible for the establishment and evaluation of health and nursing service philosophy, goals, policies,
practices and procedures and serves as liaison between health and nursing services and administration. - Recruits and recommends selection of health services personnel and facilitates hiring, orientation and
training of new, returning and substitute nursing staff. - In collaboration with the building principal, supervises school nurses; motivates, coaches, evaluates,
disciplines, and recommends termination of staff. Establishes best practices and procedures, monitors and
reviews work. - Communicates and promotes the role of comprehensive school health in improving academic success to
other staff and administrative groups. - Develops and implements a quality assurance program and provides technical assistance, consultation and serves as a resource and role model to school health services staff and other building staff in the delivery of quality student health services.
- Insures compliance with State and Federal regulations as they relate to special needs students with medically complex conditions. Evaluates requests for specialized nursing care, coordinates hiring, and actsas district liaison for contracted nursing agency staff.
- Coordinates student health services activities and regular meetings/in-service training for nurses, support service personnel and other employee groups.
- Communicates the philosophy and goals of educational support practices to constituents and community stakeholders and develops school-linked support programs between agencies, hospitals, and other district offices to insure the efficient delivery of services for students and families; acts as a central administration contact for community-based groups.
- Plans, manages, analyzes and makes recommendations for a Safe and Healthy Learning Environment by reducing non-academic barriers to learning. Prepares applications, budgets, year-end reports and operational guidance for district support grants and community partnerships.
- Manages student support programs and provides integration with other district specialist(s) and coordinates training of contracted staff. Provides liaison between contractors and building administration for compliance and eligibility.
- Assists with the coordination and leadership for the district human crisis response plan.
- Assists the instruction department in the selection, utilization and evaluation of health education materials for all school-age children. Plans and implements evaluation of effectiveness of health education programs delivered by school health services staff.
- Acts as chairperson for district Nutrition and Fitness advisory and as liaison for Comprehensive School Health.
- Manages and implements district Bloodborne pathogen and Exposure control program.
- Coordinates district-wide events such as employee wellness and employee flu shots.
- Manages district Automated External Defibrillator (AED) program and coordinates district First Aid/CPR staff development courses.
- Plans for anticipated public health problems and responds to acute health situations in coordination with state and local public health departments.
- Develops, modifies, and implements a needs-based staffing model for district nurse staffing assignments.Collaborates and coordinates with Human Resources in order to provide the necessary data to inform staffing decisions.
- Performs other duties as assigned consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
Salary: NNRAP Administrator Salary Schedule, Level G. Salary starts at $103,881.00; placement on the
salary schedule is determined by Human Resources DOE.
Work Year: Full time, 12 month position. 260 work days; 8.0 hours per day, FLSA Exempt.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience and Required Licensing
Ability to obtain Washington Registered Nurse License upon hire. Bachelor's degree or higher in nursing and School Nurse ESA certification required. Must have experience in school nursing and public health/community support services. Must hold valid healthcare provider First Aid and CPR certification.

- Knowledge of communicable diseases, diagnosis and treatment of common pediatric conditions,
emergency care of ill and injured students - Demonstrated knowledge of current health related educational issues and trends
- Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with community and governmental agencies
- Ability to develop and manage District budgets and special project funding
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents,
administration, outside vendors, and the community - Ability to exhibit good judgment when dealing with sensitive situations and honor confidentiality
- Ability to operate a computer including well-developed skills in using word processing, spreadsheet,
presentation, and special application software - Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to manage multiple activities simultaneously and
meet established timelines - Strong human relations skills including the ability to deal with distraught and angry individuals in a
consistent, calm, and fair manner; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; demonstrated
enthusiasm, creativity and innovation - Highly developed skills in problem solving, decision-making and conflict resolution; skill in written and
oral communication including ability to produce accurate written documents - Skills in supervision and evaluation of staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in an office environment; frequent interruptions; exposure to visual display terminal; may be required to
attend meetings beyond normal working hours; may be required to deal with distraught or angry people.
