Co-Generation Engineer

Oregon State University Facilities Services is hiring for a full time Co-Generation Engineer position.  Facilities Services is responsible for constructing, protecting, repairing, maintaining, and preserving the physical facilities and utility systems of the University.

This position encompasses the following basic responsibilities:

  • Monitors Operations/Inspections: Monitors operation of gas and steam turbine generators, boilers, water treatment, Energy Management System, medium voltage electrical distribution equipment and supporting equipment using digital plant controls, routine walk-downs and readings. Must have the knowledge, skill, and ability to select and implement the appropriate operating combination of equipment to safely and efficiently meet campus steam demand to changing weather conditions. Performs routine walk-down and inspection of equipment to verify operating condition and readiness for operation of standby equipment, verifies proper oil levels and alignment of support equipment. Identifies and corrects water or oil leaks, keeps area clean and free of any debris. Collects, consolidates, and analyzes data into appropriate records and reports. Initiates appropriate corrective action and work documents for abnormal indications and trends.
  • Troubleshoots/Corrective and Preventative Maintenance: Troubleshoots and performs corrective and preventative maintenance on high pressure boilers, gas and steam turbines, various types of pumps, air compressors, fans, and other steam related equipment. Implements Lock out-Tag out to provide safe conditions for maintenance.
  • Water Quality Analysis & Adjustments: Monitors water quality indications, performs water analyzes and implements appropriate adjustments. Mixes and adjusts concentration/injection rates of water additives to maintain boiler water quality within standards. Identifies and responds to alarms and off normal indications, selects and implements the appropriate SOPor other operating instructions.
  • Studies technical manuals and industry information: Studies technical manuals and industry information to develop and update SOP’s and SOO’s work instructions and maintain operating proficiency. Interfaces with other work groups and vendors using good customer service communication skills. Controls access to the OSUsteam transmission system tunnels.
