POSITION SUMMARY:

The ADA and Title IX Coordinator has District-wide visibility and responsibility for supporting identified civil rights compliance areas (emphasizing the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act, Section 504, Title IX, and other applicable state and federal regulations/laws) covering students, employees, and public access to programs and facilities. This position will serve as the federally-mandated Section 504 and Title IX Coordinators. This position actively supports and engages in Pierce College's goals for equity and inclusion in order to provide access and support for our diverse community of learners.
This position is unique and Pierce College understands it may be difficult to find an individual with comprehensive knowledge of both ADAAA and Title IX requirements for higher education. Under the general direction of the Executive Officer for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, this position will provide District-wide leadership and expertise relating to ADAAA and Title IX compliance areas, emphasizing civil rights compliance. This position leads collaborative and coordinated efforts in college-wide policy development, monitoring, consulting, education and outreach, and information and reporting. It requires expertise in applying the laws and regulations related to the ADAAA and Title IX within the college setting and to existing and emerging situations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees and coordinates the District's compliance with legal and regulatory obligations related to ADAAA, Section 504, Title IX, and related laws/regulations regarding accessibility and
- Develops and conducts training, awareness, and outreach campaigns related to accessibility, disability and sex/gender-based discrimination.
- Works in a collaborative process to develop and review related District policies and procedures in accordance with legal obligations and industry best practices.
- Builds strong relationships, develops awareness of compliance roles and responsibilities, and provides professional guidance and support to the college Creates collaborative partnerships across the District and with peer institutions.
- Responds to inquiries from the college community related to accessibility and compliance, such as: physical access, digital access, and general legal requirements.
- May be involved in the process and/or act as a subject matter expert for complaints related to disability accommodations.
- Ensures timely, thorough investigations into complaints of discrimination or harassment in accordance with college Oversees and coordinates internal and external investigations; may act as primary investigator.
- Takes steps to ensure all parties to discrimination complaints have equitable access to the college's programs and activities and protect the parties as required by law or Such steps may include recommending interim measures before the final outcome of an investigation, providing remedial measures, or making the parties aware of all available resources.
- Oversees, provides training for, collaborates with, and leads other District employees assigned to work as Title IX deputies or investigators.
- Maintains records and prepares reports related to assigned areas of expertise.
- Participates in the District's shared governance structure; other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education:
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Required Experience:
- Three (3) years professional experience working in a complex environment, ideally leading and/or coordinating institutional compliance and/or investigations.
- Experience developing, advising on, and/or delivering appropriate education and outreach to various audiences.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of Title IX, Clery Act (including Violence Against Women Act/Campus SaVE Act amendments), and related sexual violence legislation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act, Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and related disability discrimination and accessibility legislation.
- Knowledge of best practices as they relate to higher education compliance with ADAAA, Title IX, and related laws/regulations.
- Develops and creates ideas, processes and approaches that shape the future; uses analysis and critical thinking skills to solve problems; ensures decisions are aligned with strategic direction of the college/district.
- Communicates in a variety of contexts using multiple Effectively transfers thoughts and expresses ideas in individual or group situations.
- Provides equitable access to educational offerings and support services and collaborates to eliminate barriers. Fosters a climate of inclusion, where diverse thoughts are freely shared and integrated to develop plans and solutions that are best suited to circumstances. Utilizes appropriate methods for interacting sensitively, effectively, and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic and professional backgrounds, and persons of all ages and lifestyles.

- MS Office suite software knowledge and experience.
Special Requirements:
- Must obtain Title IX Coordinator certification or possess the ability and commitment to obtain certification within one year of hire.

Terms of Employment:
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) administrative exempt position with Pierce College. The primary work location will be Pierce College Fort Steilacoom, but travel to other Pierce College sites will be required. Core work hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. however, scheduled hours may vary and include occasional evenings and weekends. All positions may be subject to reassignment between campuses or sites.
Physical Work Environment:
This position primarily works in an indoor office environment. While based at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom, this position requires travel between other college sites, including Joint Base Lewis McChord. Occasional overnight travel and evening and weekend work may be required.

Benefits:
The starting salary for this position is $72,000.00 per year. However, your paycheck is just part of the total compensation package. There is an outstanding benefits package which is worth an additional value equivalent to about 30% of your salary. Life and long-term disability insurance plans; vacation, sick and personal leave; reduced tuition; and retirement benefits are also provided.
