Basic Responsibilities
This position is responsible for analysis of the transmission system, including power flow and transient stability studies and for providing well-written, understandable reports as a result of that analysis. By modeling forecast load and contingency conditions, identify potential system deficiencies in a timely manner such that capital projects can be completed to maintain system performance within acceptable criteria. Mainly the timeframe is in the planning horizon and can also include the operation horizon. Provide after-hours operational support on a rotational basis. In addition, maintain and demonstrate compliance with a variety of NERC reliability standards for transmission planning, transmission operation, facility ratings, and cyber security. Ideal candidate will be a self-starter, organized, and able to make progress toward a variety of goals concurrently. Experience with NERC reliability standards and system analysis highly desirable.
Minimum Qualifications
Engineer
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering; AND,
- Four (4) years directly related engineering experience and FE or EIT; or six (6) years related engineering experience.
Professional Engineer
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering; AND,
- Six (6) years related engineering experience, with two (2) of those years as a Lead or Project Engineer; AND,
- Washington State Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
Principal Engineer
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering; AND,
- Nine (9) years of progressive applicable engineering experience, three (3) years of which are in a project engineer/lead engineer capacity in the electric or water utility engineering field; AND,
- Washington State Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an Electric Utility.
- Experience with System Protection.
- Experience with, or willingness and ability to learn, specialized analysis tools, including symmetrical components analysis and use of short-circuit programs.
