Senior Counsel [Seattle]
Position Description:
The Boeing Law Department seeks an attorney to provide legal support for the Boeing Intellectual Property organization (BIP). BIP is Boeing's center of excellence for intellectual property strategy, technology licensing and protection across the enterprise. The successful candidate for this position will provide copyright, trade secret and patent focused legal advice to the Boeing Commercial Airplanes and Boeing Global Services commercial divisions and provide support for commercial IP licensing transactions.
This position is based in Seattle, WA, and reports to the Senior Director, Commercial of Boeing Intellectual Property.
Responsibilities:
- Advise business leadership on IP strategy
- Assist in IP license interpretation, drafting and negotiation
- Contribute to development of pro forma licenses
- Structure approach to intellectual property (primarily trade secret) use and ownership in collaborations and development projects
- Act as focal for data collection and use advice
- Provide advice on IP enforcement actions, patent infringement issues and patent strategy
Requirements:
- Law degree from an ABA-accredited program and an active license in at least one state
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience negotiating and drafting IP transaction documents and advising on general intellectual property issues
- Deep familiarity in at least one area of intellectual property law (e.g. copyright, trade secret, patent or trademark) and basic working knowledge of all other areas
- Law firm or in-house experience
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment and establish rapport with others easily and effectively
- Clear and concise communication style and ability to handle a large volume and variety of matters while providing high-quality legal support and sound business advice
- Be comfortable working in a matrixed environment with numerous stakeholders
- Skills to effectively coordinate and communicate across all levels of the organization, including other law department members and business persons throughout the world across a variety of cultures
