The Assistant Director (AD) of the Institute for Global Engagement and the Global Honors Program offers a tremendous opportunity for professional development for an individual who is excited about promoting global engagement through innovative program building and collaborative coordination with academic units across campus. The AD serves as program administrator, principle student adviser, recruiting and admissions supervisor, grants and awards facilitator, and budget manager. The Global Honors Program established in 2004, is UW Tacoma’s nationally recognized interdisciplinary honors program offering a Minor in Global Engagement and certificates in Global Leadership and Global Citizenship. Through the Institute for Global Engagement established in 2014 and the Global Innovation and Design Lab established in 2018, it connects students to professional development opportunities and experiential learning both locally and globally. The mission of the unit is to connect classroom to the world. With student success at the heart of every endeavor, the curriculum is deeply integrated with experiential learning so that students see themselves as ethical change agents through active global and local community engagement.
The Assistant Director will work closely with Faculty Associate Directors, a Program Coordinator, and a Program Assistant, to help build and coordinate an inclusive structure that integrates globally focused coursework with academic majors. The position works under the direct supervision of the Executive Director.

Administration and Advising:
The Assistant Director (AD) is accountable for managing program operations, including the allocation of resources and assessment of outcomes. S/he/they oversees all details of recruitment and is responsible for achieving recruitment goals. The AD makes decisions and recommendations related to student admissions, retention, and advising. The AD is responsible for researching and implementing honors student counseling best practices and honors academic and administrative best practices. Working with the faculty associate directors, s/he/they will be part of a collaborative team to oversee campus-wide honors, advising academic units on honors admissions; dual-advisor (cross-unit) honors counseling; and the integrated honors curriculum. The AD oversees academic scheduling (time schedule construction) and faculty course appointments, including faculty onboarding and support processes.
Fiscal/Budget:
The AD is accountable for allocation of resources. S/he/they manages/monitors all activity for state, discretionary and scholarship/grant budgets. The AD is accountable for procard expenditures and reconciliations, coordination of program faculty and staff payroll procedures and staff leave and oversees student scholarship/fellowship/award processes and expenditures. The AD regularly produces financial reports and budget projections.
Events, publicity management, and community engagement:
The AD plans and oversees all program events, including new student orientation, networking social, annual global engagement conference, and graduation reception. S/he/they will be familiar with developing and executing products for publication such as promotional posters and fliers, community reports, the quarterly newsletter, as well as online materials such as unit webpages and social media. The AD represents the unit at career outreach events, community organizations and college/university fairs. S/he/they maintains close professional contact with UW Tacoma and community college advisers.
Reporting responsibilities:
The AD regularly reports to the Executive Director regarding the state of program operations, student academic performance, and progress toward achieving admission goals; including through formal assessments and annual program reports.
