The Q Center has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director. This position will assist the Director in developing, managing, promoting, and strengthening the effectiveness of LGBTQA+ programs and resources through the University of Washington Q Center; providing professional development and campus leadership on issues related to gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation; hiring, training, and supervising staff; promoting collaboration and partnerships across campus to advance support, safety, and inclusion of LGBTQA+ students, faculty, and staff.
This position supervises a growing staff of 9 - 10 members and is ultimately responsible for all programming operations (education, policy advocacy, Safe Zone training, support and referral services, community building, peer mentoring). The Associate Director also collaborates with the Director to develop the Q Center's strategic plan, standard operating procedures, fundraising efforts, program evaluation, and campus needs assessments. This position requires a broad body of knowledge in Student Life practice, as well as specialized knowledge of LGBTQA+ issues, social identity development, intersectional frameworks, and ally development. This position also requires significant knowledge of health and mental health resources, and must be proficient in brief crisis intervention and service referrals.
The Associate Director is ultimately responsible for the center's daily operations including planning, budgeting, delivery and evaluation of LGBTQA+ programming, training and supervision of student staff, and cultivating external partnerships. In addition to providing education, advocacy, and support services, this position provides broad consultations to the university community regarding the climate, safety, wellness, and positive identity development of/for LGBTQA+ students, faculty, and staff.

Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Social Work, Higher Education, or other related field, or equivalent experience.
• Four to five years’ experience in the following:
o working on issues of gender and sexuality and/or with students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, asexual, agender, gender fluid, gender queer
o Specific knowledge and experience with intersectional work in social and/or racial justice
o Ability to deal effectively with students, faculty, staff, the general public, and external agencies
o Supervisory skills
o Administrative abilities
o Human relations and intercultural communications skills
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Desired Qualifications:
• Master’s degree, preferably in social work, higher education or human services, and two years of counseling and/or related work in planning, organizing, and evaluating educational programs, or Bachelors degree and four years of related experience
• Experience working with people from underrepresented identities including race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation, romantic identity, religion, nationality, disability, language, etc.
• Strong ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, community members, etc.
• Experience working in higher education environment
• Experience with assessment and student learning outcomes
• Experience developing and implementing training
• Previous experience working with students of color
