The Department of Applied Mathematics hosts a vibrant community of scholars dedicated to conducting world-class interdisciplinary mathematical research with applications in the physical, biological and engineering sciences. The department provides dynamic and engaging training that is especially strong in scientific computing and modern mathematical methods and in the application areas of mathematical biology, nonlinear waves and coherent structures, mathematical finance, and climate modeling. It has 13 faculty members, 14 adjunct faculty, 21 affiliate faculty, seven emeritus faculty and seven staff members serving 200 Applied and Computational Math (ACMS) undergraduate majors, 50 doctoral students, 300 master’s students as well as non-majors enrolled in courses.
The Administrator of the Department of Applied Mathematics is responsible for general administration, business planning, financial management, personnel, research project support, advancement, and other functions as necessary. The Administrator reports to the Chair, acting independently under the Chair’s general direction within the University's policies and procedures.
