Our Anatomic Pathology Department has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time (100%), NIGHT SHIF - ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY TECHNOLOGIST.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technologist to perform complex procedures for services such as histology, gross room, flow cytometry, electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and autopsy.
UW Medicine Pathology provides clinical services in all areas of pathology, providing diagnostic procedures and analysis for more than 80,000 cases a year. We provide comprehensive diagnostic and personalized consultative services to physicians, community hospitals, independent laboratories and other health-care organizations, by combining sophisticated testing and informatics capabilities of fully accredited laboratories with the resources of an academic and teaching institution in its delivery of pathology services.
The team at UW Medicine Pathology is committed to providing timely and accurate diagnosis of biopsies and other material by highly qualified faculty, skilled technicians and dedicated staff members. Our expert consultation services feature proven diagnostic protocols, innovative technology and exemplary customer service. Our operations are based at the UW School of Medicine, UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Pathology faculty members also serve at Seattle Children's, VA Puget Sound Health System, Northwest Hospital and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. These collaborative efforts have generated innovative studies in the basic mechanisms of disease applied to diagnostic pathology - the foundation of our cutting edge research discoveries, and of our training programs for graduate students, residents and fellows. UW Medicine Pathology is one of the top ranked research departments in the country.
Under the general supervision of the Histology Supervisor, the licensed Histotechnologist is to perform histotechnology procedures of processing, embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining of tissue specimens for evaluation and diagnosis by Pathologists; to perform immunohistochemistry; to perform specialized procedures in renal histopathology; to perform basic special stains and prepare solutions as needed; to use, care and maintain histology instruments; to perform quality control and quality assurance; to perform research and development of new procedures.
Reviews and evaluates results of testing performed and informs supervisor, director and staff of any technical problems. Independently monitors reagent use and prepares appropriate volumes needed, records daily instrument temperatures and performs preventative maintenance on instruments according to prescribed protocols. Successfully navigates the network computer to accession research cases, order lab tests, review work lists and provide case status to inquiring pathologists and clinicians. May perform procedures in various services of anatomic pathology such as histology and gross room.
Additional duties include:
•Receives & accurately processes tissue specimens, tissue blocks or other approved requests for Pathologists.
•Evaluates and documents that quality control standards are met and assists in troubleshooting any problems that arise in methodology or instrumentation.
•Reviews and evaluates results of testing performed and informs supervisor, director and staff of any technical problems.
•Independently monitors reagent use and prepares appropriate volumes needed, records daily instrument temperatures and performs preventative maintenance on instruments according to prescribed protocols.
•Successfully navigates the network computer to accession research cases, order lab tests, review work lists and provide case status to inquiring pathologists and clinicians.
•May perform procedures in various services of anatomic pathology such as histology, gross room, flow cytometry, electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and autopsy.
•Perform related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor's Degree with coursework in chemistry, biology and other biological sciences including microscopy AND certification, or certified within two years of date of hire, at the Technologist level by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists or the Microscopy Society of America AND one year of clinical anatomic laboratory experience
OR
equivalent education/experience.
DESIRED:
•Familiarity with Power Path, Omnitrax and Power trax systems a plus.
•HT or HTL by American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP).
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Certification by the American Society of Clinical pathologist (ASCP) within two years of date of hire.
