The “New Burke” is a groundbreaking museum of natural history and culture that inspires wonder and pride about the Northwest and our place in the world. The New Burke will turn the museum inside-out–allowing visitors to see into the labs, collection storage and workrooms–and connect with new discoveries seven days a week.
The Archaeology Public Interpretation Coordinator will play a critical role in the development of the Burke Museum Archaeology Department’s approach to connecting the visitor to the ongoing work of the museum taking place within publicly-visible Archaeology workspaces. To accomplish this, the Interpretation Coordinator will work with Burke Archaeology staff and volunteers to develop, implement, and evaluate publicly visible museum content, while also managing the scheduling and staffing of the presentation of this content within the Archaeology workspaces of the museum. Because this content must reflect ongoing Burke Archaeology curation and research efforts, substantial experience in archaeology and/or museum collections and curation are necessary.
This position will require work on weekends, holidays, and evenings in support of museum events and peak visitation times.

An ideal candidate will have experience in Washington archaeology, familiarity with modern curatorial best practices and experience working with archaeological collections, as well as experience presenting archaeological concepts, standards, and ethics in public educational contexts. The ideal candidate will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well the ability to creatively develop, implement, and manage educational content and supporting infrastructure.
