The Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director.
Under the direction of the Director, the Assistant Director provides leadership in the delivery of student support services and programs that align with best practices in retention and student services. The Assistant Director assists in the oversight of the unit signature events and programs, student advising, and education and training. Oversight includes hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of programs. As the lead of the Kelly ECC Leadership Team, the Assistant Director participates in reporting, strategic planning, budget forecasts, and articulation of mission and vision of the department. The position is administrative and supervisory in nature, with a high degree of autonomous decision-making.
This position will require the use of sound judgement and a thorough understanding of higher education policies related to student needs, diversity, undergraduate education, the first year experience and general student life/affairs. The position requires the use of collaborative and collegial approach with faculty, staff, administrators, campus community and other stakeholders of Kelly ECC to identify, develop and implement programs, events and policies to enhance the undergraduate experience and the preparation for successful graduation. The Assistant Director will participate in setting policy, managing student advising, and assist Director in creating academic and extracurricular programs for students. In addition, this role will have supervisory role overseeing staff focused on revenue generations and significant responsibilities in reviewing, developing and implementing program and student leadership development policies. The Assistant Director will serve as a mentor to others in the department.
The Assistant Director will work to increase individual and registered student organization (RSO) Center usage and oversee critical student leadership development and advising. The position will work with staff, faculty, administrators, student services/life offices and academic departments to ensure student success and enhance the college experience. The position is committed to supporting the departmental goals in developing and implementing strategies for undergraduate student preparation. In the absence of the Director and Assistant Director for Operations, this position will serve as the representative of the Kelly ECC and will interact with OMA&D Executive Staff, directors and other campus units and departments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides oversight of student leadership development management and programming involving multiple facility units within the Kelly ECC; includes reviewing, developing, and implementing advising policies and procedures.
• Provides leadership in developing and implementing exemplary and comprehensive programming for students and registered student organizations (RSO's.
• Collect and assess student and RSO need information, maintain detailed records for program evaluation purposes, create quarterly summaries and statistical reports on student usage and provide Director with recommendations for improvement of services to students Serve as point of contact to keep the Director and Associate Directors and OMA&D Administration apprised of emerging student issues and concerns related to campus climate and diversity.
• Develop partnerships and collegial relationships with academic departments, Student Activities Office, First Year Programs and administrative units to develop innovative strategies that will effect greater student participation in student programs and activities.
• Communicates with faculty and staff within academic and student affairs departments and other student support programs on campus to optimize student support.
• Represent the Kelly ECC and Director on internal and external committees related to student leadership development, student activities advising policy, and when designated by the Director. Attend meetings and other functions on and off campus as necessary.
• Direct supervisory oversight includes two (2) full- time professional positions, one (1) graduate student and one (1) student employees and in the absence of the Director provides supervisory oversight of five (5) full-time professional positions.
REQUIREMENTS:
• A Masters Degree is required; minimum of five (5) years experience in a college level student services/programs with student organizations, leadership or a related field, business operations, advanced budgeting, knowledge of UW financial software and policies.
• Must have knowledge of of higher education administration, student development theory and educational policies; ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff and administrators in a university setting.
• Candidate must demonstrate excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

• Knowledge of leadership, management, and supervision principles and practices.
• Involvement in professional organizations within the field and experience presenting at professional organizations.
