UW-IT has an outstanding full-time opportunity for an Assistant Director in our Network Design and Architecture (NDA) team.
We’re seeking an Assistant Director with strong networking technical depth, proven experience leading and developing technical teams and services. This position will function as the Service Owner for our wired network service, and will have the skills and experience to evaluate complex network and telecommunications technologies, and lead the service teams that develop the architectures, designs, and deployments of leading-edge network constructs suited to the needs of the University of Washington and its strategic network partners. Members of the NDA team design and help support networking services that are foundational to the missions of the University of Washington and our networking partners.
This team is a key part of the IT Infrastructure division in UW-IT supporting both wired and wireless networks. We work on networks of varying scales - from campus to international - including three University of Washington campuses with associated labs and facilities throughout the region; UW Medicine (3 hospitals and over a dozen clinics across the state); the Washington State K20 Network (300+ connectors); the Pacific Northwest Gigapop, the regional point of presence for research & education networking; the Pacific Wave international R&E peering facility; and the C3 optical ring around Lake Washington. In addition to supporting a variety of network scales, we also design, deploy, and operate partner-owned fiber, DWDM, and ethernet services; third party circuits; and a variety of L2/L3 network constructs.

ABOUT YOU

That you are a successful network professional with six or more years’ experience in designing, and deploying advanced, large-scale, critical, high-volume networks and/or leading technical and service teams to do the same.
You will have proven experience leading a technical product or service through the all phases of the product/service management lifecycle. This would include service strategy, design, transition, operations and continual service improvement.
You believe in open engagement, dialog, clear communication, trust, and respect as the foundations for effective partnerships.

Service Owner
Network Services
Supervisory
This Assistant Director reports to the Director of Networks and Telecommunications and works regularly across all levels of staff within UW-IT, including AVP/CTO. They will also interact with computing directors on campus, UW Medicine administration, Directors/Executive Directors across campus and with peer institutions.
