The Associate Administrator for Ambulatory Care is a member of the executive leadership team of the University of Washington Medical Center, (UWMC) providing strategic leadership and operational guidance to both UWMC campuses--Montlake and Northwest. Develop and implement strategies to achieve the business and program goals for the UWMC Ambulatory Care Division. Achieve UW Medicine Patients Are First goals through executive leadership, direction, and oversight of the Ambulatory Care Division. Effectively collaborate with Medical Directors, clinical directors, planning and decision support, contracting, and others as necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as the Associate Administrator of UWMC Ambulatory Care Division.
As a full partner in the management of UWMC, participates in the development of programs, policies, and plans for the effective operation of UWMC. Primarily responsible for program planning and evaluation for the departments and services assigned.
Serves as a role model in professional leadership and management of the medical center.
Consults with divisional administrators to coordinate inter-departmental activities; provides leadership in determining and implementing department activities and operating procedures, interpreting the medical center mission statement, values, business objectives, program plans, policies, procedures, budgets, and operating statements.
Assists the Chief Executive Officer and represents the UWMC Administration in University, Board, management, staff, and community meetings.
Establishes and maintains positive collaborative working relationships with campus departments and external agencies and organizations.
Provides administrative leadership and operational guidance to the medical center programs accountable.
Participates in the preparation of the medical center operating, capital, cash, and construction budgets.
Liaisons with the service line managers accountable for UWMC ambulatory clinics.
Finalizes budget requests, prepares written narrative, and reviews the final proposal with the Executive Team.
Closely collaborates with all members of UW Medicine Staff and Providers to assure success across UW Medicine.
Prepares reports, analyses, and makes recommendations for the effective management of the Ambulatory Care Division; reviews and approves recommendations of departmental and service requests and specifications for capital expenditures and new programs/services.
Interviews, selects, and evaluates the performance of managers and support staff reporting to this position.
On a scheduled basis, serves as Administrator-on-Call for 24 hours per day seven consecutive days per week.
Provides leadership to organization-wide Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities, including serving as a team leader, executive sponsor, or consultant to process improvement teams.
Effective monitoring systems to assure departmental standards of performance are maintained, operating objectives are achieved, and laws, regulations, policies, and procedures are followed to assure the interests of the institution and the patients, students, and faculty served are properly met and protected. Maintains compliance.
Participates as a member of various committees involved in policy and procedure development, program planning, and conflict resolution.
Participates in program planning and evaluation for the departments and services assigned.
Represents the UWMC or UW Medicine on external boards, commissions, associations, and committees.
Maintains contact with and coordinates the UWMC’s activities with other hospitals, University departments, and relevant agencies of local and state government.
Responds to and handles patient, staff, or public complaints and grievances related to this assignment of administrative responsibility.
Performs other duties as requested by the Chief Executive Officer.
REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in Health Service Administration, Business Administration, or equivalent.
Minimum of five (5) years of successful leadership in health services.
Demonstrated competence in financial management, clinic, and practice management.
Must be familiar with the tools and techniques associated with process improvement, change management, and major systems change through the use of group processes.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
