University Advancement and the Information School have an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director for Corporate and Foundation Relations.
The Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations will work with the Assistant Dean for Advancement, faculty, academic leaders, volunteers and other advancement staff to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for corporate support, and direct the solicitation process (including identification, cultivation, and management) for corporate gifts and private grants in support of the Information School. The Associate Director will work in partnership with faculty in the Information School, as well as the Associate Deans and their offices, to develop fundraising and private grant strategies that support research initiatives and school priorities.
The Associate Director will work closely with iSchool faculty, the iAffiliates Program Director, Program Chairs, the Research Services Team, the Student Services Team, the UW’s Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations, CoMotion, and the Office of Sponsored Programs and other academic units across campus.
The Associate Director for Corporate and Foundation Relations (ADCFR) will identify and manage a portfolio of 50-75 corporate and private foundation partners for the University of Washington Information School (iSchool). This position will establish strategies for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship aimed at increasing and deepening the iSchool’s corporate relations. The ADCFR will work collaboratively with the iSchool’s Advancement team, the iAffiliates Program, Student Services, Office of Research Services, research center directors and the academic program chairs to coordinate and facilitate the iSchool’s interactions across units with the objective of maximizing the flow of resources to support the iSchool’s teaching and research mission. Resources are generated by the relationship building, stewardship and proposal development activities of this position as gifts (including gifts-in-kind), sponsored research, contracts, executive education tuition, and internship and employment opportunities for students and graduates. He/she will work cooperatively with staff in the University’s Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations on joint corporate and foundation prospects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Under the general direction of the Director for Advancement, plan and implement the Information School’s corporate and foundation relations fundraising program.
Develop and maintain a clear understanding of the iSchool’s research areas and strengths and develop relationships with iSchool academic leaders. Use this information to match corporate interests with the school’s research and academic areas.
Communicate regularly with the iSchool’s Office of Research Services, Student Services, research center directors and academic program chairs. Establish mechanisms within the iSchool for the internal coordination of corporate interactions.
Coordinate development activity with the UW’s Assistant Vice President for Corporate and Foundations Relations.
Utilize the UW’s “Advance” prospect management database to track and manage the portfolio.
Work closely with the Dean, the Assistant Deanfor Advancement and other iSchool leaders, faculty and staff to develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for each corporate partner that result in gift and grant funding.
Identify corporations capable of making gifts or allocating resources to the Information School. These efforts will culminate in the development of a portfolio of 50-75 corporate partners.
Communicate a compelling value proposition to corporate partners. Prepare background and briefing papers for the Dean and other iSchool leaders, faculty and staff as necessary.
Plan and implement corporate visits. Prepare itineraries and briefing materials for participants, iSchool leaders, faculty, staff and others.
Plan and implement corporate donor events and projects.
Plan the travel of the Dean or other iSchool leaders, researchers or faculty members for corporate and private foundation visits; preparing briefing materials and setting appointments.
As appropriate, travel to corporate offices to represent the iSchool and the university for the purpose of identifying new prospects for partnerships, presenting proposals and/or stewarding existing relationships.
Develop gift proposals and related development material for corporations in collaboration with key faculty and staff.
In conjunction with the Office of Research Services, assist faculty and researchers in identifying private foundation prospects and submitting proposals for funding.
Work closely with iSchool leadership, faculty and staff to ensure timely and high-quality stewardship of corporate and private foundation relationships.
Work proactively on behalf of the Information School to form beneficial corporate partnerships that result in gift and grant funding. Manage a portfolio of corporate and foundation gift and grant prospects using the University’s prospect management and tracking system. Identify corporate and foundation gift and grant prospects and implement a cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plan for corporate and foundation donors, strategically aligning this effort with UW’s Corporate and Foundation Relations Office, the iSchool’s stewardship staff and central UW donor relations and marketing activities. Publicize funding opportunities with corporations to iSchool faculty. Cultivation and stewardship efforts will be designed to strengthen institutional relationships as well as ensure adherence to gift and grant guidelines and reporting requirements.
Make proposal presentations to corporations and foundations for significant support ($50K+ focus) and/or provide training and support to appropriate individuals who will make the solicitations.
Prepare written proposals and information materials to secure support.
Work proactively and collaboratively with the University’s central Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations to ensure that corporate and foundation Request for Proposals are handled effectively and efficiently. Work with academic leaders and faculty to prepare proposals to best match interests and requirements of corporations. Provide responsive and well-informed advice regarding corporate funding sources and solicitation strategies to faculty, colleagues and volunteers.
Travel to corporate and foundation offices to represent the iSchool for the purpose of identifying prospective partners, presenting proposals and/or stewarding existing relationships. Plan and staff the Dean or other faculty members’ travel by determining appropriate appointments, securing appointments and overseeing the preparation of briefing materials.
Develop itineraries, goals and briefing materials for corporate and foundation visits involving the Dean, faculty and other University personnel.
Participate cooperatively in the University’s prospect management and tracking system, filing informative and timely contact reports.
Identify, recruit and staff volunteers to assist cultivation and solicitation.
In consultation with the Assistant Dean for Advancement, establish annual goals, objectives and strategies.
Participate in assessing progress toward goals. Prepare annual operating plan and submit regular reports to the Assistant Dean for Advancement.
Participate in the development of policies and procedures related to the advancement program, marketing materials for corporate relations activities and cultivation and stewardship events.
Program Development and Management
In consultation with the Director for Advancement, establish professional goals, objectives, and strategies. Participate in assessing progress toward goals.
Prepare an annual operating plan for corporate and foundation relations and submit regular reports to the Director for Advancement.
Represent the iSchool at university, community and professional functions, as appropriate.
Attend iSchool and university meetings as needed.
Participate in professional development opportunities to expand knowledge base for the position.
Other duties as assigned.
Assist in developing an annual plan, including goals, objectives and strategies. Provide strategic leadership and guidance to department chairs, faculty and administrators in designing and implementing strategies and advancement programs needed to sustain and increase corporate support.
Coordinate the participation of the Dean, academic leaders, administrators, volunteers and advancement staff in corporate fundraising activities. Advocate for college priorities that would attract major funding and work proactively to forge relationships among academic leaders across disciplines to develop funding opportunities.
Understand and help address compliance issues related to corporate relations, including conflict of interest, classification of gifts and grants, and gift policy, and work with others to ensure CFR adheres to all relevant regulations, policies and procedures.
Assume management of special projects assigned by the Assistant Dean for Advancement.

Bachelor’s degree and five years’ of experience in institutional advancement and/or external relations, with an emphasis on securing major gifts from individuals, corporations or private foundations, preferably in a college or university setting. Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may substitute for degree.
Demonstrated success in identifying, personally securing corporate gifts/grants.
Ability to understand and articulate academic values and priorities, and work collaboratively with faculty, administration, corporate representatives, students and alumni to achieve results.
Strong project management and team leadership experience.

Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.
Working knowledge of the information field.
Familiarity with the Pacific Northwest corporate community.
Experience working in higher education or the technology industry.
Knowledge of alumni relations/development/advancement principles.
Knowledge of Advancement policies and procedures, including use of the development database software ADVANCE.
Demonstrated experience in securing grants and gifts from a portfolio of funders.
Demonstrated grant-writing experience.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
Must have regular and reliable transportation for local travel and willing to travel when necessary.
Frequent local travel expected.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
