The Associate Director of Residence Life is responsible for creating a supportive residential living and learning environment that advances the values and goals of the University of Washington Tacoma. The Associate Director serves as a supervisor, mentor, role-model, mediator, crisis-responder and conduct officer. This live-in position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of UW Tacoma's current residence hall (Court 17) and helps to facilitate future planning for Housing and Residence Life at UW Tacoma. As a member of the Student Affairs leadership team, the Associate Director contributes to the vision for, and implementation of, first-rate student affairs programs and services that align with UW Tacoma's mission as an urban-serving University.
Leadership & Supervision
Serve as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team.
Participate in long-range and annual planning that aligns Residence Life & Housing efforts with UW Tacoma’s strategic goals and the needs of UW Tacoma’s diverse student population.
Responsible for day-to-day functions that create an educational, diverse and safe living learning community, including educational programming, leadership opportunities, crisis planning and response and student conduct.
Share responsibility with Finance and Administration for day-to-day housing and facilities management including occupancy management, budget and environmental health and safety. Actively manage the HRL program budget by ensuring compliance with Student Affairs and UW policies, monitoring spending and planning for future needs.
Supervise a three-quarter time, live-in Resident Director (professional staff position).
Recruit, train and supervise Community Assistants incorporating best practices in student development, leadership development and residential life programming and operations.
Assist with creation of, and monitor compliance with, policies and procedures for HRL.
Consult with various stakeholders about residential students and the residence life program (e.g. university leaders, students and prospective students, parents and families, faculty).
Utilize assessment to market residential life, improve the residential program and guide future planning. In partnership with Finance and Administration, report on HRL (e.g. housing demand, occupancy, finances, presenting issues).
Student Development, Education and Support
Develop and supervise implementation of a residential programming model that meets the unique needs of UW Tacoma students.
Partner with the AVC for Student Experience and academic affairs partners to develop living learning options.
Assist in advising Residence Hall Association and ensure residents are engaged in shaping their living community and its future.
Develop partnerships and referral pathways to support students’ health and wellbeing and to facilitate their retention and persistence.
Serve as a Student Conduct Officer, adjudicating student conduct process for Court 17 residents in compliance with UW policy and procedure and utilizing best practices in student affairs.
Meet with individual students and student groups; facilitate referrals to meet students’ needs.
Operations Management
Support and collaborate with Finance & Administration partners to monitor and address facility concerns; coordinate opening and closing procedures; and approve all intra-hall room changes.
With campus partners, develop emergency response plans and necessary emergency training.
Manage duty rotation and training of on-call staff.
Serve on Student Affairs and UWT committees

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, or related field.
Minimum of 2 years of experience providing effective leadership in the development , implementation, and assessment of student programming, to include University Housing, and familiarity with strategic planning and best practices
Demonstrated effectiveness in supervising employees, to include hiring and training
Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work within a multi-cultural and diverse environment
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
Proven ability to work independently and in teams
Ability to use sound independent judgment in working with faculty, staff, students, employers, and represent the University appropriately
Knowledge and application of Student Development Theory
Experience building partnerships and collaborating with a variety of university constituents, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents/family members, alumni, community members and other external constituents
Ability to develop and implement Student & Enrollment Services initiatives and plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate multiple assignments and projects
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in education, counseling, business administration, or related field
Experience presenting student and enrollment service related topics on a university, local, regional or national level
Membership in appropriate professional organizations to include ACUHO-I, ACPA, NASPA, or related association.
In depth knowledge and experience with one or more of the areas of responsibility: University Housing; Student Conduct; Student Affairs Leadership.
