UW Medicine’s Information Technology Services (ITS) department is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Neighborhood Clinics (UWNC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM) and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). In addition, UW Medicine shares in the ownership and governance of Children’s University Medical Group and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (a partnership between UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research and Seattle Children’s). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all of these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.
As part of the Analytics Consulting group, the Business Intelligence (BI) Business Analyst (‘BI Analyst’) is responsible for working with internal customers to define and prioritize business requirements; partnering with development, application, and other Analyst teams to design and implement analytics solutions; and providing an overall excellent customer experience. While all members of the Analytics Consulting group are expected to develop proficiency across all domains we support, this position will focus heavily on:
This position regularly works with end-users, management, and other Analyst groups across UW Medicine, to identify business problems and opportunities for process improvement, as well as supports the overall quality of enterprise data. The incumbent produces thorough analyses and detailed business and technical requirements documentation as necessary to support solution development; works closely with Programmers, Application owners, Data Architects, and Solution Architects to ensure that solutions meet customer needs, and strives to support the voice of the customer in all interactions. The BI Analyst stays connected to the customer throughout the lifecycle of their request(s) and ensures all solutions undergo effective quality review and user acceptance testing. The BI Analyst also assists in release documentation, user training, and ongoing support.
The BI Analyst has a unique focus on driving ongoing process improvement and consolidation of the access management and service request processes for the Analytics Consulting group. The BI Analyst will directly support the triage of incoming customer requests with other team members. The incumbent identifies, implements, and measures opportunities to improve how the Analytics Consulting group receives requests for work, and provides access to data and reporting solutions; ensures service-level expectations are measured and met across all Analytics teams; and engages with internal customers and data governance groups to make certain processes are easy to use, effective, and fully compliant with enterprise policies governing access. They will work broadly across the Analytics group to ensure effective work prioritization and make sure requests are assigned to the best possible resource. The BI Analyst will engage with other team members to drive process improvement both within the Analytics Consulting team and the department as a whole. The incumbent will stay up-to-date on all group solutions and services and frequently demonstrate and educate customers on existing and new tools.
This position is expected to leverage enterprise business intelligence tools to answer questions about data, produce meaningful analyses, and independently create reports, dashboards, and other data visualizations when needed.

This position requires independent judgment and collaboration with both internal and external partners to proactively manage, analyze, report, and implement the Analytics programs, projects and tasks assigned. This role will work across cross-functional teams. This position will also require the ability to navigate complex levels of the UW Medicine environment in addition to working with managers and directors of UW Medicine entities. The incumbent is expected to perform analytical work requiring knowledge of administrative principles and analytical practices. The position will be provided access to restricted or confidential information including: employee and patient information, medical center strategic plans and initiatives, financial information (or other sensitive materials and information). The BI Analyst will be required to maintain confidentiality and follow strict compliance and organizational guidelines.
The Analytics Consulting group has a dual report into ITS and the UW School of Medicine; provides operational oversight for the major analytics platforms and tools at UW Medicine; and is a key support function as UW Medicine transitions towards value based health care. The BI Analyst collaborates effectively with colleagues and other departments at Harborview Medical Center, Northwest Hospital & Medical Center, Valley Medical Center, UW Medical Center, UW Neighborhood Clinics, UW Physicians, UW School of Medicine, and ITS, as well as with other Project Managers, Technology Managers, and Directors.
