We are seeking candidates for our Clinical Documentation Program Manager position. The Clinical Documentation Program (CDP) Manager is responsible for managing and for providing organizational leadership for the CDP within the Center for Clinical Excellence (CCE) at University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC). This position supervises the RN Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDS) and is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, quality and integrity of data entered by the CDS into the 3M Documentation Management system.
1. (25%) Oversees the Clinical Documentation Program at UWMC. Monitors and improves the overall effectiveness, efficiency and image of the Program. Devises methods of internally auditing and investigating the medical record for examining, analyzing and reporting on institutional practices and procedures for:
a. Compliance with internal and external regulations and policies;
b. Effectiveness of established controls;
c. Efficiency of operations; and, Accuracy of reports and records
2. (20%) Supervises the CDS. Determines appropriate staffing requirements and optimal departmental organization. Interviews, selects and evaluates performance of staff reporting directly to this position. Plans, assigns work, counsels, coaches and reviews the work of staff. Provides access to adequate training for staff in areas such as technical knowledge, customer service and professional development.
3. (15%) Works with the Lead CDS to conduct clarification audits. Works to maintain and improve the quality and integrity of data collected for decision making and works with other areas of the organization to ensure consistent reporting of information. Analyzes and makes recommendations for improved data quality and ensures optimal utilization of the 3M Documentation Management system. Collaborates with the Lead CDS to respond to and challenge insurance denials and ensure complete reimbursement for care provided
4. (15%) Facilitates the review of clinical issues with coding staff to assign a working DRG.
5. (10%) Participates in process improvement teams and committees charged with improving patient care. Works collaboratively with physicians, administrators, managers, and other members of the CCE and the UWMC to promote strategic alignment and integration, and to identify improvement opportunities.
6. (10%) Collaborates with physicians and other clinical providers to initiate specific interventions to improve documentation.
7. (5%) Plans and staffs the Clinical Documentation Steering Committee.
This position is full time, and requires an active Washington State RN license, BSN, 6 years of recent clinical experience in a hospital setting, strong fundamental knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and measurement, and leadership experience. Experience may substitute for educational requirement. MHA, MPA, CPA or other post-graduate degree is preferred.
