Office of Research Information Services (ORIS), a division of the Office of Research, coordinates, develops, and supports electronic research administration for faculty and staff at the University of Washington. Goals include:
The University of Washington’s Office of Research Information Services has an outstanding opportunity for a full time Communications & Marketing Specialist.
The Communications & Marketing Specialist position serves as a multi-media content producer with a high degree of digital responsibilities. This position designs and develops high-quality print and digital content to promote and increase use of ORIS products and supports the Office of Research website platform on WordPress. The Communications & Marketing Specialist will support marketing and educational campaigns and ongoing activities that impact researchers and their teams on all three University Campuses, supporting the Office of Research’s critical mission to reduce administrative burden for researchers and enable them to focus on research. Projects include but are not limited to website content, marketing brochures, email campaigns, online tutorials and e-learning modules, screencasts, videos, job aids, PowerPoint presentations, newsletter content, style guides and templates. The Communications & Marketing Specialist will manage projects, processes, activities and resources, aiding the Assistant Director for Content Strategy & Business Operations in development and execution of communication strategy and collateral. She or he will serve as one of the website administrators and content editors for the Office of Research website, which houses critical information for the University’s world-class researchers and their teams and the general public, and help ensure quality and consistency of this product. The Communications & Marketing Specialist will use website and email user analytics to plan and adjust outreach approach, contribute to communications strategy, and to help in decision-making.
The Communications & Marketing Specialist must have an aptitude for using technology and a desire to learn. She or he will grow to have a solid understanding of ORIS software systems and IT services in order to plan and deliver content for various audiences, using a variety of multi-media vehicles. This position must be able to identify and segment current and potential customers of ORIS’ product lines in order to effectively market and build adoption, including creating communication and outreach plans that align with ORIS overall product adoption and content strategy goals. This position will independently create, publish and distribute online and print content for system and product documentation and must exercise good judgement when developing and disseminating messages, ensuring sensitivity to a wide range of audiences and a process that results in a high-quality product. Under direction of ORIS’s Assistant Director, Content Strategy & Business Operations, he or she will also contribute to content and marketing strategy. This position requires a willingness to learn new software tools, media production skills and content strategy approaches. Experience with WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, and multimedia production techniques, as well as an understanding of communications strategy, website analytics and other metrics, is beneficial to success in the role.
The Communications & Marketing Specialist will provide support and website platform expertise to staff that are crucial to sustaining systems and services that support the Office of Research’s mission of enabling the achievement of excellence by the research community. The position represents ORIS at cross-departmental meetings and must be comfortable partnering across research support units and with the research community to provide clear, concise and timely messaging for all audiences. The position will also engage regularly with subject matter experts, user experience designers, business analysts and software developers.

This position will primarily be expected to work standard working hours with some website monitoring responsibilities and product release communications responsibilities outside of standard working hours.
