All of which has allowed the UW to be nationally recognized as a “Great College to Work For” for six consecutive years.
The Medicine Healthcare Equity initiative began in the fall of 2016, when a multi-disciplinary committee of clinicians, faculty, administrators, students and system leaders came together to develop a set of objectives, strategies and tactics to advance healthcare equity for all patients regardless of race, ethnicity, language, religion, age, spiritual practice, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, socioeconomic class and mental or physical status. In 2017, the committee created a multi-year Healthcare Equity Blueprint to guide UW Medicine through the journey to improve healthcare equity. The vision is to become a national model for healthcare equity and reduce disparities in healthcare delivery.
UW Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a Community and Staff Engagement Coordinator (32 hours/week).
The Community and Staff Engagement Coordinator will focus on implementing the strategies in objectives 1 and 2 in the blueprint – workforce awareness building/training to create an inclusive workplace and care setting for patients; creating a robust community presence by engaging our communities as partners to identify and address healthcare disparities. A key part of this role will be coordinating and implementing the communications efforts about the healthcare equity work. This includes, developing a communications plan, coordinating the development of the annual report, social media communications, marketing of internal training opportunities and external events. This role will be an integral part of the Healthcare Equity team consisting of the Director, Healthcare Equity, Medical Director, Healthcare Equity and Healthcare Equity Program Operations Specialist.
The UW Medicine Healthcare Equity Team interacts with diverse audiences across the region including students, faculty, community providers, community stakeholders, and public officials to move the program goals forward.
