The University of Washington’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) within the Office of Research, has TWO outstanding opportunities for full time Compliance Analysts based at UW Tower.
This position reviews and approves grant and contract proposals, negotiates resulting awards, and exercises independent judgment and thorough analysis on administrative matters throughout the life of the award. Each of the position responsibilities is outlined below.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Proposal Review and Submission
This position is responsible for the review of proposals to external sponsors and the timely submission of proposals on behalf of the University. This position carries delegated signature authority for a subset of competing proposals and non-competing renewal awards of significant dollar value to the University. Additionally, by approving and signing/submitting proposals, this position will certify the University is in compliance with a wide range of laws regulations and policies.
This area of responsibility includes:
The individual in this position must have knowledge of sponsor types and the differences in sponsor requirements, solid understanding of regulatory requirements for management of assistance funding in order to review fiscal and non-fiscal compliance assurances. This individual must possess the ability to learn new rules and regulations quickly, apply knowledge to different fact situations and make independent decisions, handle a large volume of workload and work efficiently under hard deadline time constraints. Attention to detail is required.
Award Review, Negotiation, and Acceptance
The individual in this position reviews awards from federal agencies, federal flow-through funding and a subset of other bilateral agreements. University acceptance is dependent on terms and conditions that are consistent with Federal and State law, University policy, originating sponsor requirements, and University processes and systems. This position collaborates with department representatives and/or faculty to negotiate an acceptable award terms and conditions on behalf of the University.
This area of responsibility includes:
The individual in this position must have knowledge of federal regulations concerning management of federal assistance funding, including OMB Uniform Guidance. He/she must have a working knowledge of conflict of interest regulations, human subjects and animal care policies and other non-fiscal compliance areas.
He/she must be familiar with University post-award processes and systems and a firm understanding of applicable University research policies.
This individual in this position must be able to interpret, explain and apply rules, regulations and policies to specific work scopes and award terms and conditions to ensure the risks associated with funding are acceptable.
In addition, the person in this position must be able to prioritize, balance, and delegate a shifting amount of workload in a deadline driven working environment.
This individual must possess strong communication skills, written and verbal, and be able to explain policy or regulation to others that may not possess the same background.
Associated Pre-Award and Post-Award activities
The individual in this position must be able to receive various sponsor communication both before an award is made as well as after the project is underway, and assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in interpreting the request as well as facilitate the submission of the requested information. Additionally, upon notice that a PI wishes to submit additional materials or a request to a sponsor, the individual in this position assists the PI by ensuring the format and content of the request meets sponsor and University requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related field and three or more years of experience in grant or contract administration or equivalent experience.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Familiarity with federal electronic research administration is required. Knowledge of MS Word and Excel is required.
Experience with major federal sponsoring agencies such as NIH, NSF, DOE, DOD and others.
A demonstrated capacity to work with and within a diverse community.
This position requires the ability to meet strict deadlines by sponsors for proposal submission which may require working beyond normal hours including evenings and/or weekends. These deadlines apply to nearly all facets of grants processing and include the sponsoring agencies as well as University personnel. Additional deadlines apply for the federal and state agencies at the close of their fiscal years.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
