Costume Design & Construction Coordinator - Department of Dance
BASIC FUNCTION
Lead staff engaged in the design, construction and maintenance of costumes and accessories for dance productions.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Lead and coordinate all aspects of costume design, construction, patterning, tailoring, fitting, and execution of a wide variety dance costumes.
TYPICAL WORK
Working directly with choreographers on designing, patterning and costume construction, fitting and altering as needed.
Draft and/or drape original patterns by either developing a pattern from the dancers’ measurements or draping fabric on a dress form to create a pattern based on designs in collaboration with choreographer.
Construct costumes and accessories from patterns using tailoring techniques, specialty hand sewing and pressing techniques required to shape and stabilize the fabric, and other costume construction methods.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years college training in costume or vocational sewing, pattern making, and fabric cutting AND three years professional theater/dance costuming experience OR equivalent education/experience.
