The School of Drama is a dynamic, creative, and highly productive unit with 20 faculty and 20 staff members serving 80 undergraduate majors, 35-40 Master of Fine Arts students, 10-15 PhD students, and over 1,000 non-majors enrolled in courses.
The School of Drama has an exciting opportunity for a full-time, 11-month Costume Shop Manager. Reporting to the Production Manager (a staff member), the Costume Shop Manager is responsible for managing the costume shop and staff while balancing the needs of the School’s academic, artistic, and production needs. Pursuant to University policies and procedures, the Costume Shop Manager works independently and in partnership with the Production Manager on financial and personnel matters, stock and facilities upkeep and development, and other duties as assigned. This requires making decisions that affect the daily and long-range activities of the costume shop, the costume shop staff, the productions of the School of Drama, and the education of graduate and undergraduate students. The Costume Shop Manager also works closely with the School’s faculty to ensure that learning objectives in the costume design curriculum are achieved.
The School of Drama is a learning environment where the teaching and mentoring of students is paramount. The Costume Shop Manager should possess a keen interest in the creative process and a desire to problem-solve with students, staff, and faculty. A proactive and positive attitude is required as is ongoing investigation into and curiosity about the costume field.
Our faculty, staff, and students are engaged with the ways that race, gender identity, sexuality, ability, class, and ethnicity intersect within and shape the human experience, both within the educational experience and outside of it. We encourage all members of the School of Drama to think critically about the world around them, and engage actively. Thus, we are strongly seeking candidates whose experience has not only prepared them to fulfill our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, but has also given them the confidence to fully engage with people from a wide spectrum of backgrounds.
