The Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity's (OMA&D) has an outstanding opportunity for a Counseling Services Coordinator with Multicultural Outreach and Recruitment (MOR).
The Counseling Services Coordinator of Multicultural Outreach and Recruitment (MOR) is part of a team of professionals committed to attracting and enrolling talented and diverse students to the University of Washington (UW) in order to help create an intellectually and culturally vibrant student body.
The mission of the Multicultural Outreach & Recruitment office is to attract and enroll Washington's and the world's most promising undergraduates through the targeted identification and recruitment of diverse applicants. We aim, through admission policy and practice, to contribute to the creation of an intellectually, culturally diverse and vibrant student body. The members of the Multicultural Outreach & Recruitment Office work in a fast-paced environment, and are committed to diversity, access, and excellence.
This position is a member of the Multicultural Outreach & Recruitment counseling team and has responsibility for ensuring accurate, consistent, and friendly customer service in a timely manner to prospective students, families and other influences who interact with the University of Washington. In consultation with the Director of Multicultural Outreach and Recruitment, the Admissions Counselor will provide innovative strategies to improve college access to the University of Washington for applicants. This position will lead their own development and implementation of a communication plan for marketing the student experience at UW, including web and social media strategies.
This individual must manage a recruitment territory, accurately perform budget planning and fiscal management of their recruitment travel budget, use Client Relationship Management (CRM) technology to track and report data for all inbound (call, email, and drop-in/appointment) activities for the Office of Admissions. This position will work closely with academic departments to identify the proper application procedures, selection criteria and serve as an important liaison between the Office of Multicultural Outreach and Recruitment (MOR) and the Admissions Office, Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity Academic Counseling Services Undergraduate Advising, First Year Programs, and the Office of Financial Aid contacts.
This position will ensure that prospective students from underrepresented backgrounds are guided through admissions process; direct student questions to the appropriate person/office on campus and provide outstanding customer service to students, parents, school administrators, and counselors in a timely manner.
Additional responsibilities of this position include developing Client Relationship Management (CRM) reports on their respective high schools to monitor the progress of underrepresented minority recruitment for students from Black/African American, Native American/Alaskan Native, Hispanic/Latino/ Hawaiian Pacific Islander, and Southeast Asian backgrounds. During low peak seasons, this position will assist in the coordination and execution of campus visitation activities led by Multicultural Outreach & Recruitment.
The success of this position will be measured by metrics such as an increase in the number of incoming applications from prospective students from underrepresented minority backgrounds who enroll at the University of Washington.
This position reports to the Director of Multicultural Outreach & Recruitment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Counseling prospective student applicants about opportunities available at the UW, the admissions process, financial literacy, and academic preparation and planning to enroll at the university. Such counseling takes place through in-person appointments, information sessions, phone calls and emails. 40%
• Representing the UW at high schools, community events, college fairs and on-campus information sessions and events 25%
• Assisting in outreach and recruitment programs and events 15%
• Implements and leads student programming for 9th - 11th graders that is culturally appropriate and continues to develop a connection to the UW Husky Experience 5%
• Read and assess freshman applications 2%
• Development of productivity and status reports 8%
• Other duties as assigned 5%
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social or Human Services or related field
• At least two year's admissions counseling and/or outreach experience, or equivalent.
• Strong public speaking skills and the ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations.
• A highly motivated self-starter with an ability to set and meet goals, to make decisions independently, and to multi-task and prioritize in fast-paced environments
• Fearless communicator with demonstrated in-person, social media, and written experience.
• Team player who can play both a leading and a supporting role.
• Experience working with first generation and racial/ethnically diverse populations as well as an understanding of their cultural differences and their effect on college planning.
• Prior experience working with Hispanic/Latino youth is strongly desired.
• Must be able to effectively communicate across various demographics beyond and within the UW campus.
• Experience with undergraduate admissions.
• Must be comfortable with technology and have proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and database software tools.
• Strong communications, interpersonal, presentation and computer skills.
• Leadership in event planning and implementation experience.
• Strong writing skills are essential
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
• Demonstrate lead experience with project management, especially involving university teams and/or committee convening roles.
• Strong quantitative data manipulation skills such as advanced Excel spreadsheet capability.
• Experience in college admissions, recruitment experience, or early outreach and engagement with youth in Washington and an understanding of the distinctive qualities of the UW.
• We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about the UW, has a strong work ethic, and exercises sound judgment, professionalism, and maturity.
