The Department of Health Services has an excellent opportunity for a full-time Course Management Specialist to support the Department's learning technology and course management systems. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide consulting, technical support and training for faculty and teaching assistants working both inside the course management system and with live, web-based interactive platforms. This includes managing/editing Canvas course web sites and facilitating webinars for faculty, students and staff, and using the UW Curriculum Management system on behalf of the Department of Health Services. This position will also provide lead staff support for the Department’s Curriculum Committee.
Housed in the UW School of Public Health, the Department of Health Services is a dynamic academic and research department with the mission of working with partners in public health and health care to prepare leaders, design solutions, and conduct innovative research that is translated into practice and policy. The Department is steadfast in its efforts to improve and promote the health of all populations, and staff contribute daily and directly to the work of faculty, students, researchers and other staff, providing support and expertise to the Department's common cause.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Manage all aspects of online course management system, including the quarterly preparation, set-up, and support for multiple programs. Monitor timelines and implement proactive procedures to streamline the quarterly and yearly course preparation cycles.
•Provide consulting, technical support and training for faculty and teaching assistants working both inside the course management system and on traditional course web sites, and troubleshoot problems for the hundreds of student users of our online course systems.
•Provide lead administrative support to the HSERV Curriculum Committee and its Chair, including use of the UW CM (Curriculum Management) dashboard, and other support for course/program change approval and instructor opening processes
•Take lead in notifying instructors/support staff of all course support timelines (pre-publication deadlines, finals week, grading, course evaluations, etc.)
•Work to develop and support reasonable uses of educational technology that serve the teaching mission of the academic programs.
•Provide lead staff support for UW Other academic/administrative support tasks as assigned, such as preparing digital media and documents for use as course materials, using data sources to developing student rosters/directories, and developing course, program or student related statistical reports (5%)
•Facilitate weekday evening 2-hour distance learning synchronous environments as needed
•Participate in University-wide learning technologies administrator updates as schedule allows, and other duties as assigned

Requirements:
•Bachelor's degree in education, information technology, social sciences, or other relevant subject area
•Three years of experience working with course management systems
•Experience with end-user technical support or customer support
•Ability to coordinate faculty, teaching assistants, program staff, and others toward a shared-support model for educational delivery
•Experience with group and on 1-1 technology training
•Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
•Experience facilitating or leading meetings or educational sessions
•Experience with web/video conferencing
•Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
•Technical aptitude and desire for new learning challenges in emerging educational technologies
•Ability to collaborate with Associate Director of Instructional Design and Delivery to evaluate faculty and student training reviews, and observations to serve the teaching mission of the academic programs
•Collaborate on analysis/implementation of new learning technologies
•Experience designing and adopting course management operations with new programs/certificates/trainings
•Experience creating internal documentation of operational procedures
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Desired Qualifications:
•Knowledge of training design (ADDIE) and adult learning theories, and ability to apply these theories in developing and delivering training curriculum
•Knowledge of User Experience (UX) design and assessment principles
Working Environmental Conditions:
Weekly evening hours of 6:30-9:00 p.m. are required on Tuesday and Thursday.
